AP questions

Hi everyone, just a few general questions regarding the AP:

1) If I apply for it at same time as AOS and EAD, how long does it usually take to obtain the AP? I know for EAD, it usually takes around 90 days, how about for the AP?

2) I heard you can electronically file for the AP. Do people usually do this at the same time as you file for your AOS? Do you get your AP faster by filing electronically?

3) What do most people usually put for Part 7, where it asks to please explain how you qualify for an advanced parole document and what circumstances warrant issuance of advance parole.

Thank you,

Lou

1) about the same 90-120 days

2) Never electronically file anything... it slows you up because it gives USCIS a chance to lose your supporting documentation that you still have to mail in....

3) 'Pending I-485, wish to travel abroad if necessary while I-485 is in process' is about all you need to say...

Not true, we electronically filed AP and had no problems.

Ok.. so you were one of the lucky ones who actually got your evidence matched up with their file... there are lots of other people who weren't so lucky and had months and months of delay added to their AP or EAD... attorney's consistently opine that the electronic filing thing that USCIS put out is the worst idea on the face of the planet...

I have not seen these threads, we might of reconsidered sending ours that way. Where are they? I would really like to read them to read them.

John & Annie,

Zyggy wrote that electronic filing gives the USCIS the opportunity to lose things. He did not say that losing things was a certainty.

John & Annie,

Zyggy did not write anything about "threads". You really do need to read more carefully and not imagine words that have not been written.

Use the 'way back machine' to access attorney Matt Udall's web site in the days when his reports of his visits to USCIS Service Centers were available to the general public. You will find where he was told by SC management that electronic filing caused them difficulty because they needed to wait for the supporting documentation to arrive and be matched up with the correct file before they could do anything with the applications. It's easier for them to get everything they need at the same time in a single package.

You are right the term 'thread' was my assumption.

When I see words like 'opine' I get concerned that i might of missed something. Of course immigration lawyers will opine about e-filing, perhaps lament would be more accurate. The more things that are e-filed, the less work they have for straight forward cases. Lets face it, the main issue that could happen would be the miss matching of mailed in documentation. You can not submit the forms if there are empty spaces.

I am not saying that things can not go wrong, but with the inefficiencies of the USCIS, I do not think we can make the distinction that e-filing is more or less efficient today. I would even argue the fact that obtaining a case number would only make it easier to track as opposed to waiting until you get a case number from mailing in the forms.

I have been on the boards now for a bit and have not seen one instance of a e-filing disaster. Everyone, please chime in if you had a bad experience with e-filing.
