Hi, we tried to apply for a SSN back in Jan. (from a K1) and haven't heard from them yet. We've already asked that 3 requests be sent to DHS for verification but they said that DHS has not responded yet. It's already been 2 months.

Is there anyone we can call or talk to to expedite this? I saw previous posts from mdyoung but the links don't work and there aren't any phone numbers.

Anyone experienced this and/or how to resolve?

Thanks!

I'd contact your local rep and ask them for help. It shouldn't be taking that long. The letter I was given when I applied for my card said it "will take about 4 weeks: for them to confirm my immigration status.

You need to call your SSA office and insist that they do a follow-up on the DHS Verifications. SSA Policy states that after 15 days without a response from DHS on a verification, that the office must submit a follow-up.

I had exactly the same problem. The SSA office refused to any follow-ups stating there was nothing they could do but wait, which isn't true, the SSA has direct phone numbers for DHS who they can call to check on the status of the verification.

Finally I got fed up with my local SSA office and called the Regional SSA office and complained. Wouldn't you know it, the next day my local SSA office called me and told me that they had submitted a follow-up and a week later I had my SSN.

I had to go to the SSOffice because they wouldn't even answer their phone.

After a lot of confusion they just called the DHS for my verification, then told me I could come back in 3 days to get my SSN...just a printout..and 5 days later I had my SScard in the mail.

Keep on bugging them, eventually they will do something!

We just tried calling the regional office and they wouldn't even take our reference number stating that for verification purposes, they have to refer us to our local branch. So we can't even complain to the regional office!!

Based on the previous posts, should we just tell our local office to call DHS? Can they refuse and just keep telling us that we just have to wait?

Get your local rep to help you. They are used to dealing with these agencies and have contacts there.
