Turkey is saying the plane was shot down .

I am happy it happened, really.

Look, if'n yer gonna do a border run, you must have stellar avionics and mapping satellites. Russia has neither and now they are more certain about the mapping disparities..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Putin has nothing but bravado. He wouldn't be mad enough to engage in a war with the West. I'm sure the idea though, makes many think about making a run on the grocery stores to purchase baking supplies.

More likely this will just diminish relations between Russia and Turkey. That's still significant in the region and in the fight against terrorist groups.

I've always said Putin is not the guy to worry about. I actually don't think he'll around that much longer. If you wan't to see real crazy, check out some of the guy's lined up to replace him.

Actually I blame Obama for WW2

Atta boy.

Seriously though, the fact that turkey was able to shoot down a Russian airplane should give you an idea of 1.) how militarily weak they are and 2.) how not afraid of them anyone is.

Eta they = Russia.

Not sure if people have looked at the radar map. It looks like the plane was heading towards a small pennisula of land to the south. The F16 fired as the plane entered the pennisula, the air to air missile made contact west of the pennisula.

(The reason I bring this up is because technically from the radar map the plane was shot down in Syrian air space....its due to the small size of land the fighter crossed into and the speed of travel).

Sounds like the rebels killed both pilots.

Seems to be unnecessary in the overall scheme of things if it was just an airspace violation. I suspect there is more to this.

Russia and Turkey had a military co-operation agreement, which is now suspended of course. Seems to make the possibly of future incidents even more likely.

Russian media reported both pilots shot/killed while parachuting by Turkmen brigade rebels.

Russia still supports al-Assad while Turkey vehemently opposes his regime. Russia hitting non-ISIS targets was already an area of contention between the two countries. Whatever the Russian plane was doing in this area, it was not targeting ISIS.

Hopefully this doesn't escalate too much.

According to this article Turkey itself has been playing both sides.
