I read a book called Finders Keepers. It was a true story about a guy that found 1 million dollars. The money had fallen off the back of a security truck, the doors on the truck hadn't been secured. He was with a friend, and they decided to keep the money. In the end his friend told the police, as there was a reward out for the return of the money. The guy was caught trying to leave the country. He pleaded insanity, and got away with it!!!!

Oh, I voted before I saw your comments! I was thinking like $50 or $100, then I might keep it if there was no ID or anything with it. If it were a lot more money (or had ID) well of course I would take it to a police station and report it.

I wasn't specifying a particular amount of cash that you would find. I was mentioning the book as this is what made me think of the question. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

Oops didnt read before I answered either. $1 million I would definetly take it to the police station, someone would find that out soon enough so not like you could get away with it. $20 bucks, would check around to see if anyone seemed to be looking for it, if not in my pocket it would go.

I would go with my gut feeling on the particular incident...if my gut says spend, I'll spend and if my gut says report it, I'll report.

It would depend on the situation and the amount of money....

last September we were at the LA Fair and as I was walking I noticed something on the ground... it was a folded up bill...

I couldn't tell what denomination it was because it was kind of dark.... tonnes of people were walking right past it and nobody noticed it... So I told hubby to go back for it.... Now I can't remember exactly what it was.. it was either $5 or $20.... but we ended up spending it ... there would have been no way to find out who it belonged to with the tonnes of people who had been through there that day....

I was thinking like $5,000,000 or $10,000,000 then I might keep it if there was no ID or anything with it. If it were a lot more money (like $1,000,000,000 or had ID) well of course I would take it to a police station and report it.
