Ok guys need your help again. I am trying to get everything taken care of before my daughter starts school nextweek.

So we are trying to get my daughter included to our medical, vision & dental insurance. She got here yesterday Nov 22, with an IR-2. We did go to SS administration first thing this morning. But we would like to get her in to our insurance as soon as possible just in case she get sick due to the weather and time changes, it might take a while for her body to adapt.

Anybody knows if we really need the SS number to get her in? Cuz it might take 2 weeks for her SS card to arrive.

This is more of a question directed at your insurance carrier. I recommend asking your HR if she can contact them on your behalf with the same question.

Mine told me that it depends on the insurance, some will use 000-00-0000 until your card gets there, while others are strict and will not cover you until you get your ss number.

If you don't have an HR, your insurance contact is your next best bet.

My wife did not need a SSN to be added on my health insurance policy. In fact, the insurance was active for 6 months before she even arrived here, and she didn't receive an SSN until 2 months after arrival. Others in this forum have also attested that an SSN prior to getting insurance is not required.

In general you do not need the SSN to be added to your insurance plan. However, check with your insurance company to be absolutely sure.
