Good morning everyone, my FIANCE finally arrived in the U.S last Thursday. He wasn't given any I-94 at the POE, but immediately he arrived we filled out the online I-94, and we printed out the confirmation. Now, we'll be going to the social security office today for his SSN application. These are what we have for the application?

1. His valid passport with visa

2. His birth certificate

3. Online I-94 confirmation

4. The SSN application form

Hope it's not too early for the SSN application?, because I read somewhere that you have to be married before the SSN. Tnx for your responses

You do not have to be married before getting the SSN. You may be a little early which means he will not be in the SAVE database yet. If he isn't in the database then they will have to verify manually with USCIS which can add a few weeks to the process.

Your list of documents are exactly what we used last Friday to apply for my Fiance's SSN. We waited 14 days after her arrival and had no problems.

I believe I've read accounts recently of people applying without problem only days after arriving.

What exactly is the SAVE database?

Google is your friend.

What is SAVE?

The SAVE Program is an inter-governmental information service initiative which verifies the immigration status of benefit applicants.

Please let us know what you found out today! My fiance and I plan on going this week, so if you two have no problem, then we might not either! (F)

Once again, with the I-94 now being electronic, the two week waiting period is no longer necessary. As long as you can pull up the I-94, you can apply for your SSN. I was able to pull mine up the day after arrival and submitted my SSN application four days after arrival with no hiccups.

You can access your I-94 here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/consent.html;jsessionid=Px6LWJsCJLh1njwvv5xqJyJ9LX5BXbKWXTqG6pB4CTjrGvwjxv2Q!1064455819.

If you are able to pull it up through there, then yes, you may go to the SS office today and apply. I would suggest printing and filling out the application before you go to the office.

The I-94 isn't really something you do. It's a record of when your fiance entered the country. You just need to type in your information, pull it up and print it out. As for the SSN application, it can be found under the visajourney guides at the tope of the page!

Just to share our experience:

We married last week, and went today to get his SSN. They told us that we could not get it since his status changed. I really wish I didn't think we needed to wait two weeks to apply for SSN and had gone to apply when the I-94 was available. Oh well. I think we should be able to AOS in three weeks, so that shouldn't be too bad.
