I am big on budgeting and staying debt free. Have you ever heard of Dave Ramsey? Check out his book at your local library "The Total Money Makeover". I love his envelope system and not having credit cards. I am debt free final and happy. His website is www.daveramsey.com. He has a radio show to maybe you get it. I just sold some used books today for 96 dollars on a website that takes some used books. I always look for things to sell that are collecting dust.

do you have a budget? do you stick to it? what is a good budget plan to go by?

i finally got myself a steady (i think) full-time job and want to implement a budget into my life. all my life i've gotten a pay check and spent every penny. now that i'm on my own i want to be responsible and put money where it needs to go.

any good links to read about it? or ideas? :help:

I personally use the envelope system. I budget out my bills each month including groceries and entertainment. I put the amount of the bill on each envelope and each week so much goes into each one. I dont spend extra until each bill envelope is paid. I read Dave Ramsey's book and this is where I got it. Now it saitsfying to see all my money ready to pay a bill....most of the time lol!!!

It helps to get a good software program to help you budget each month. Two good ones are Quicken and Microsoft Money. I've used both, but mainly Microsoft Money (both are pretty good though). I can not imagine surviving without it and have relied on using it for years.

By using a program like that, it helps you manage your expenses, see what your savings are, and how much is spent. If you want to REALLY get picky with a budget, you can even set categories for EVERY penny you spend, and see where everything goes each month. I don't really go "that" far with the program, but do use it to keep track of my bills, savings, portfolio, etc......

I suggest you get a program like that to help you.

I'm on the "pay as you go" budget. If I can't afford it...I don't really need it. I don't spend money I don't have on stuff I don't really need. And if I really want it...I save my extra pennies to eventually buy it for cash. I carry a light debt load. I've been an overtime ####### working every extra hour that has been offered over the years. When you're working all the damned time you don't have time to spend money on stupid stuff.

The truth is that nobody (except the US government) can continue to spend more money than they have coming in. Running a successful household is the same as running a successful business. Money in and money out. Hopefully more money in than out.

Credit cards, home equity loans, loan consolidations and other gimmicks that enable bad choices are the root of all evil. I've watched friends and colleagues dig holes so deep that the ladder isn't tall enough and the rope isn't long enough to get them out.

Of course, there are circumstances such as illness or unemployment that can cause setbacks. Luck and good fortune also play a part too.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

My current budget is in my head.

I have an older version of my budget (from 3 years ago) in Quicken but that's outdated. I need to get my current budgeting documented. I also need to do my taxes....

I do budget sort of, but I really should stick to it more rigidly than I do right now. My current goal is to get as much of my high interest debt, credit cards/car loan paid off by the time my fiance and I get married. Though I might not have it completly paid off, I should be pretty well on my way there.
