This is just to ease my mind since so much has been going wrong lately - we live in a condo, and just send in our AOS/EAD packet ... they received it on Friday, so I'm not expecting anything yet, but what if they won't deliver our mail due to the mailbox situation or whatever other reason (I've gotten more undeliverable mail since I moved here than ever in my life, so I'm worrying). Since we haven't received mail in the past and don't know our case number...how will we ever know? :x

Maybe you should try talking to the mail person...or getting a PO BOX.

If you sent a personal check, you can get your case number off the back of the endorsement...once it is cashed. Good luck

Nope, sent money orders.

I've NEVER seen the mail person, and it's my understanding that they will not deliver to a PO Box, it needs to be a residential address or I would have gotten a PO box just for this purpose.

It'll probably be fine, but I've had so many problems getting my mail for a bunch of reasons that I'm scared that it'll happen with this :x it's too soon to tell, obviously but I'm being proactive.

If you're super concerned, I'd seek out the mail person. Besides, not getting your mail is crazy. It's your right to get your mail, I don't care where you live. I would go to the post office and have a chat with whoever is in charge to find out why you're having mail issues. Hooray for being proactive! I totally support you in that. Good luck.

You should at least be able to put your names on the inside as long as you don't use a sticker or something that won't peel off. Write both of your names largely and clearly and use a post-it note and tape it in there with scotch tape. Many mail carriers will NOT deliver your mail if both names are not visible on or in the box somewhere.

I am sorry but if having my name on my mailbox ment that I got my mail from USCIS then the condo rules can go to hell....

One other option is to have your mail held and you go pick it up... we did this when we went on vacation as we only have a small mailbox...

I hate to say it but you're asking a very good question and I don't think anybody has an answer though I hope somebody does. If your experience is like ours there won't be any way to know if an interview is scheduled and the notice gets lost in the mail. I have actually heard stories of people getting a notice in the mail that their petition had been denied because they didn't show up for the interview when they hadn't gotten an interview letter. For some reason they tell you to send the petition in by certified mail but they don't do the same. They have an online system that is supposed to keep you updated about the status of your case and you would think that would be a safeguard against this but it is not. You will hear people say they were "touched" and that's what they mean - the online status was updated. Ours was never touched until the whole thing was over, however! When I made an Infopass appointment to find out why, I was told to pay no attention to the online system because they don't always update it!

If you call on the phone they will just look up the same information you get in the online system. Go figure!

We changed addresses while our case was pending so I worried about this too, especially when I saw how bad the post office was about handling the change of address (basically, they didn't). Even though we reported our change of address to USCIS they still sent the notice to the old address. Fortunately, I had a deal with the new owner of the house to hold it for me.

Since you just filed I wouldn't worry about it yet. We waited two years for our interview. Hopefully you won't have to wait that long but it should be long enough to get your postal situation straigtened out.

There are processing times posted for the local USCIS office that's processing your case. If you see that time go past your filing time then it's time to start worrying but even that won't give you accurate information. Our interview occurred 8 months after when they said they were processing claims filed in our time period.

I see they are going to significantly raise the rates for this "service". That should fix the problem (sarcasm intended).

It is inside, but not outside (the mail person doesn't even come to the side where they would see the outside, there's a door on the other side he/she/it goes through, so they'd see the name if it's on the inside, not the outside). It's like the same type of set up as a PO box - mail goes in one side, the key opens the other side. Yesterday I checked, didn't realize it was inside before but it is.

But my question is more how will I know if it's not delivered, not how to prevent it from not being delivered. I can do everything in my power and if it's undeliverable anyway (what if, like everyone else, USCIS leaves off the apt # because our address is so long?) I'll need to know that so I can get it fixed. Without knowing the case number, it's not like I can just see something's been sent.

I totally understand your question, but like someone said before, I'm not sure you're going to get a great answer here. Personally, I have heard of applications being denied because the applicants didn't respond to something (like an RFE) but that was because they never got it. I don't know what the post office in your area's policy is on "undeliverable" pieces of mail. Are you keeping track of your case on the USCIS website? I know it's not totally reliable, but that could help. You can see updates on your case there. I don't remember if it says when or what they mailed you, but I have a feeling it does. Someone other than me probably knows. I can't recall at the moment. Although I DO know that I used to receive e-mail updates from USCIS and it always told me when they mailed me something. Good luck.

I haven't even gotten my NOA1 or anything - which is where I'm assuming you get the case # so if I don't have that, how do I track on the website? I have a feeling I can't - whole point of my post.
