Lost Packet 3 in Jordan :(

How thrilled I am to find this site and know that I'm not alone. I have indeed been tearing my hair out waiting for 'packet 3', though we do have an interview now.

We filed I-129F last July, it was approved in October and sent to the embassy in Amman on Nov 1. My fiance and his family moved in late November, which we knew was going to happen when we filed, but we thought we'd have the packet before then. I notified the embassy in December of his change of address and on Dec 19 they sent out a duplicate packet. (I had tested the new address first by sending him a letter and it came back stamped 'Insufficient address', so he got a P.O. Box. My mail now takes about 12 days to get to him.)

In mid-January, we still hadn't received anything so I emailed the embassy again, asking if it could be sent to me and I could forward it to him, or if he could pick it up. They replied that they sent out a 3rd packet and if we didn't receive it in a month, they would send another. (Not sure I see the point of sending out yet another packet when it will likely just get lost like the previous three.)

When we still hadn't received anything (at either his old address or P.O. Box ) by the end of February, we emailed again and this time got a reply asking if we wanted to move our interview up to March. We said that we would love to, but didn't have anything ready because we were still waiting for instructions.

Our interview is now May 2 and they sent a list of everything to bring to the interview -

DS-230

birth certificate

family book

police certificate

medical exam (choice of 2 places where to take it)

passport

2 photos

affidavit of support

They said all forms were available on the website, but I found that most of the links led to "Page Not Found".

The I-864 was listed, so that's the one I filled out and sent to my fiance, but I saw that people in this thread mentioned I-134. Did I send him the wrong form? And the embassy said nothing about DS-156, 156K & 157. I'm having him fill those out and take them to the interview, just in case.

I've been so confused. From everything I've read about the process, I thought we had to send in the DS-230 BEFORE we got an interview. I've been so worried that we'll get there and the consular will say 'Oh I'm sorry, you were supposed to do this and do that. You'll have to go back and start over.' I'm also a bit angry. If only we'd know that this was how it was going to happen, then we would have started gathering everything right away. Then he could have had his interview by now and maybe be on his way to me.

But at least I know that things are moving along somewhat normally. Thank to everyone for sharing their experiences and easing my mind.

Hi Lorette and welcome.

YOu're not alone we never received our packet either. If you are filing the k1 you also need the follow forms: DS 156, 156k and 157. Also additional proof of your relationship (letters, email, chat etc) between November and now. Then any marriage/divorce certificates for you and your fiance. I find it's also helpful to send your fiance a copy of the K1 packet that you orignially sent if you have it.

Best of luck to you and welcome to VJ!

For those going through Amman, I need your opinion. Initially my fiance gave the home address (not the PO Box) for the embassy to mail his packet 3. With those of you familiar you'll know a house/apartment address is not like here. It's just a street and suburb. I questioned him a thousand times but he said it was the best one. Then after the embassy mailed our packet last Thursday, he realized he should have used the PO Box. We haven't received the packet and when I emailed to ask for another one they said all info can be printed from the website. Luckily one of the dear members sent me a copy of their S/O's packet (thank you again "J"), so at least we have a guide. I would rather him get the official packet from the embassy though.

So my question is has anyone else had a similar problem and if so, did the embassy send another packet or did you just print the forms? I know I"m being a worry wart, but better safe than sorry.

thanks everyone!

salam

Email them and tell them it's lost, it takes a while to get anyway, but tell them it's lost and if they can send out another one. put your case number in the email. They are great responding this way.

OH MY God! Thank God! there is someone else who is in a bind! That is the checklist *I* got and yet other K3 people have somehting totally different. I didn't get anything about any I-134 or any 156s or 157s or anything like that!

What my issue was is my I-130 entered Amman waaaaaaay before the I-129F even left the US. I had to do the old I-864 with notorization, do the Ds230 in BOTH parts, etc.. all going ot the NVC.. and then my stuff went to the embassy. Then like 4 months later my I-129F went to the embassy. They set my appointment on the I-130 but can't seem to tell me if I am K3 or Cr-1. They CAN tell me my husband is interviewing on the I-130 paperwork.

I think I'm going to do all these papers and mail them with the I-864 I am sending him. I;d rather be safe than sorry. I wonder why the discrepancies in checklists? Is is like Angie told me and maybe my financial stuff has already cleared the gov't?

Did you all who are doing the I-134 and 156/157 stuff have to already do teh I-864 and prove your finances prior to your stuff going to Amman?

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Hmm. Ok. So I looked at those forms and they all seem to be connected with coming on the I-129F. So maybe that's why i wasn't asked to have any of them? Oh well, doing them anyway!

I just got a reply from the embassy in Amman, that yes, I do need the DS-156 & 156K for the K1 visa. Still waiting to hear from them about whether I need the I-134 instead of the I-864. If I don't hear back within the next week then I'll just fill it out and send it to my fiance, so he'll have whatever they ask for. He's going to be loaded down with papers when he goes to the interview, but better safe than sorry. I just wish I had a concrete set of instructions to follow.

Lorettelee,

don't forget the DS 157 and DS 230 also (the 230 i thought was associated with K3's but they told me I needed it anyway).

best wishes :)

Lorette,

I'm just checking to see if you ever got your packet from the embassy. we finally go ours last week after 5 weeks. I received it here in the US, but we already got everything done thanks to another member that send us a copy of their packet.

Anyway, it's important that you have everything they ask for in the packet. if you still haven't gotten it yet, contact me, so i can share the list with you.

did you send him the I134 that's the one you will need. and an updated intent letter, etc?

I think you have my # so call me if you have any questions. I know your interview is about 3 weeks away!!! yeah!!!!!!!

No. No sign of any of the 3 'packet 3s' nor of the appointment packet that they say was sent Feb 13. I've been waiting 6 months now. I gave up awhile ago.
