Hi there,

Is my husband can put my name as dependent on his filling of ITR next year since I do not have work for the year 2015 or he will file a joint tax together?

What are the consequence if we joint together... Is the deduction will be lesser? Or higher?

Thanks

Your question is difficult to understand. In the USA I do not have honk you can be your husbands dependent. You should know that by now.

Filing a joint tax return is possible. Please review the tax rules and laws or ask a CPA.

If you can not do it on your own your accountant will advise you.

I ment to say in the USA I don't think you can be your husbands dependent.

You don't have a timeline, so it is a bit difficult to understand the context of your question.

However, Once you reside together, your husband can claim you as his spouse / dependent. Generally this is the most advantageous tax status- married filing jointly. It has the largest deduction, which reduces the taxable income.

- Moved from K-1 Process to Tax & Finances During Immigration -

- Question is about tax returns and OP is doing AOS from B2, not K-1 anyway -

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".

Your husband can not list you as a dependent on a tax return. A spouse can not be a dependent. You can file a joint tax return. Filing a joint tax return is not the same thing as being claimed as a dependent.

Your husband can file as "married filing separately" by himself or "married filing jointly" with you.

If you had no income of 2015 anywhere in the world, then it would be best to file a joint return to minimize the tax liability.

Did you have any income anywhere in the world for 2015?

What is your status? LPR or waiting for a visa?

OP either very recently filed or is about to file for AOS from her B2 based on her marriage to a USC.
