Biometrics appointment with short notice. Walk in or reschedule? (Orlando)

We received our biometrics appointment letters today for an appointment a week on Monday. This is the one day we can't get there. If we have to wait for a later appointment, so be it, but I'm wondering if I mail this back to USCIS for a new appointment, with the holiday weekend looming ahead, will they receive it in time for it not to be seen as an abandonment? I expected slightly more advanced notice to attend. Is it worth doing a walk up? I found a thread on walk up reports, but there is nothing in there for the Orlando office and the thread doesn't seem to have many recent experiences posted. Any advice would be appreciated.

We did a walkin for the Orlando office this past May, we went around 11AM on a Wed and had no problem.

Late morning or late afternoon midweek is your best chance, If the office is busy you will probably be turned away.

As others have said, do a walk-in. If you use the Advanced Search option you'll find multiple mentions of people having successfully done walk-ins at Orlando within the last year, they're just spread around various monthly filers threads and other topics instead of being in a specific discussion of walk-ins.

There's never any guarantee that an ASC will allow you to do a walk-in, but Orlando is definitely worth trying.

Best of luck! :)

Gthanks everyone.

I checked the list of federal holidays. Is it safe to assume that they will be open the day after Thanksgiving if it's not listed there as a holiday?

I would not assume that. We went to the Social Security office two years ago on the day after Thanksgiving and it was closed--and it was not mentioned on the website. I would call to make sure. Good luck.

OPM doesn't list it as a holiday for federal workers (why yes, I do live in the DC area, how could you tell?) so yes, it's probably safe to assume that they will be open, but why not call them to confirm? USCIS lists the number for the Orlando ASC as 407-858-3600.

There's a thread about early walk-ins I just bumped http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/367977-thinking-of-early-walk-in-for-biometrics/?p=7906555

Thank you! That was the thread I found before I posted, but nobody seems to have reported on experiences in Orlando. We are going to call tomorrow to check if they are open on Friday and try for a walk in appointment if they are. Really hoping this works for us.

Thank you to everyone who has posted advice. ?

I am hoping you will be the first Orlando to post to that thread. :P

I bet they are open because it's not a federal holiday. Somebody has to show up, even if half of them took vacation days to go to grandma's house.

Did your walk in work?

It has been 31 days since our file receipt and nearly 3 weeks since we got our NOA hardcopies in the mail for the I485, etc and we have yet to receive a biometrics appointment letter. Getting worried ... not sure what to do.

So, as of February 7th (1 month after getting NOAs for I 485, EAD and AP), I sent an email to USCIS (though their website) asking about missing biometrics letter. We had called about three times and they said they couldn't do anything more than tell us to wait for a response from that inquiry.

Feb. 23rd the website said that we were sent a response to our inquiry. About a week later we got 2 letters in the mail. One saying we missed our first appointment (weird since we never got the letter .... why aren't those electronic by now?!?!?!) and that we were rescheduled for March 9th. Shew.

So, if you are out there waiting more than about 14 days for your biometrics appointment letter, go ahead and send an inquiry to USCIS. From what I can tell, it shouldn't take that long!

((crossing fingers for a fast process from here...already 57 days in...))
