So in 2006 I had two jobs. I received a w-2 from one job (the one I currently hold) but not the other. How do I go about getting one from the other?

Oh and I only worked four months out of the year. Do I even NEED to file? Do you only file if you made over a certain amount? I'm so clueless to all this.

Help please :)

It's not how much you make at each job that determinesi fyou have to file, but how much total income for the year you earned, so yes get the w-2 from teh other job. contact your boss and let them know you have not received it.

Oh where are our tax VJ members now when we need them? I thoght the level of income for e the year had to be near or below the poverty level not to file. But that was several years ago and these things change all the time. Since you will need to show all this documentation for the AOS once your fiance gets here- dont forget to make copies of everything!

PS I hate this stuff too

speaking of AOS. i hope all this doesn't hurt me from applying. in 2005, and 2006 i earned very little money because i traveled MOST of the time. but now, in 2007 i stayed put and have a steady income. will that be okay?

No problem, looks like you'll have to file. :( I can't remember the number, but there's a form you can file with the IRS if she won't give you your W2 after contacting her. The IRS will contact her directly.

Yes, you do need to file (unfortunately, there's no minimum amount). You will need to do much mathwork to see if you can claim back cent-percent.

im still so confused about my first position. they took out a percentage of taxes as if i were fulltime and making a siginificant amount. then i ended up getting fired/quit and i earned much less (was there only a few months)

would i get a lot back then?

as you can see ive never done my own taxes until now. lol

Yup, you'll probably get a good refund then. If you go to irs.gov you can look around at the instructions and see the tax table. It will tell you exactly how much you need to pay in taxes for your income level and filing status. In a nutshell, you just subtract what you already paid from what the number on the table says you owe. If it's negative, you'll get that as a refund.

by law they must provide you with a w-2. if they ignore your email, follow it up with a certified or registered letter, return receipt. keep a copy of the original letter and attach the receipt to it when it comes back.

So many variables to consider... What is your filing status, family situation such as dependants, etc.... there is no one number anyone can quote as to the minimum... In addition, even if you earned below the minimum and you had income tax withheld you would still want to file to recover this....

YMMV
