Hello all,

I wanted to get opinions and ideas from those of you who are in a similar situation. My fiance's family can not travel to the USA as they have been denied visitors visas here. I feel uncomfortable with having a large wedding here in the USA without his family/ friends in attendance. Right now our plan is to sign the marriage license here in the usa once he arrives on the k1 visa with just my father as a witness. Then once his AOS is approved do a symbolic ceremony in a third country where his family and my family can both attend.

I want to know how others have dealt with family not being able to travel to a usa wedding and your solutions. Also,if you have had a civil ceremony and then a symbolic wedding several months after the fact do you feel that it was worth it even though the two of you were technically married before the symbolic/religious ceremony?

When we got marry on 2012 my family didnt have visa plus my mom was recovering from breast cancer so we went to the court and got married to started working on my AOS. A year later we had a big ol wedding with our friends and family. The 1st wedding was our civil wedding and the second it was our church wedding. For both of us it was really important to have God's blessing. But let me tell you, our 1st (civil wedding) it was only the 2 of us and it was so so speciaal! that's actually the date we picked to celebrate our wedding anniversary

I know we all want to do something special but most of the beneficiaries family cannot attend. Try to dp something simple and once you have your gc go and do whatever you want

Thank you guys for the input.

There are places ( we used Vegas) that are set up to broadcast a wedding.

Broadcasting the wedding is an excellent idea no matter where we are because there will always be people who can't attend. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing you experience. This makes me feel better if we end up doing the two events months apart. I guess I can always say that our marriage is so exciting and happy that we can celebrate it twice. ^_^

Hello all,

I wanted to get opinions and ideas from those of you who are in a similar situation. My fiance's family can not travel to the USA as they have been denied visitors visas here. Right now our plan is to sign the marriage license here in the usa once he arrives on the k1 visa with just my father as a witness.

Don't know what you mean about "signing the Marriage License". You obtain that from the County Clerk of the county you live in. Then you can schedule to have the County Judge marry you when they do their public marriages, usually at the County Courthouse (usually once per week). Then you'll be mailed the Certified Marriage Certificate and voila, you are now legally married. No witnesses required but you can have some if you want.

Then once his AOS is approved do a symbolic ceremony in a third country where his family and my family can both attend.

Perfect

I want to know how others have dealt with family not being able to travel to a usa wedding and your solutions.

International dating and immigration to the US requires the couple to do things differently than normal. We all have had to do it.

Also,if you have had a civil ceremony and then a symbolic wedding several months after the fact do you feel that it was worth it even though the two of you were technically married before the symbolic/religious ceremony?

We didn't have a religious ceremony, just the civil ceremony. We later threw a party where all family members, here in the US, attended.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
