One of my best friends works for the Santa Monica PD. I'm curious what the department's take is on this.

Well, ask him/her, report back when able, aye?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Judges issue warrants. Not cops. And I seriously doubt a judge would help in this manner. Maybe a very corrupt judge but I'd say that would be very rare.

Correct, the chances of this happening are very slim.

Just playing the name game. I must have got the forums mixed up.

My PD tip can't divulge details but has seen the video and said the woman in the story is a "lying liar." The details will come out soon enough, but suffice to say the cops followed protocol in the circumstances, even if the number of responding units was excessive (there's also a rather mundane reason for that, and it has nothing to do with the woman being black). Sorry to be a poo but I can't say much more beyond if what my friend says is true, I believe there was some overreacting on both sides. I did say to my friend that if it were me and I saw two people calmly using professional tools to enter a residence, I wouldn't assume they were breaking in. On the other hand, I know where the woman's apartment is and there are not infrequent break-ins and attempted break-ins there. I don't really know what to think. I think it is a ringing endorsement of getting to know your neighbours if you live in a city, which can be hard.

I guess my question is - What was there to lie about?

Other than the high quantity of officers, the only "wrong" thing about the encounter that could be a lie was the fact that ID wasn't checked right away.

Or maybe it wasn't a simple breaking and entering situation?

Thanks for the report, Maves.

So if'n a black woman had a headshot poster glued to the outside of her door, no cops would mess with her?

I think she has a lawsuit against the fella making the call.

Because we know cops would never lie about a situation right?

Sure.. but is it a sweeping generalization to say "Cops cover for Cops. The good ones and bad"?

Since Maven posted that her PD tips said that the lady in the article is lying liar, what is your take on this?

I think any sweeping generalization isn't good. While it's true that some cops do cover up and lie, there are others that don't. Just like there are some people who lie on cops.

For this case, I'm still not sure why 17 cops showed up for a break in. Like Maven said, it's hard to tell when you don't know all the factors in the equation.
