I was listening to a comedian online today and he said the greatest line which was something along the lines of 'To all the folks who are so concerned about Muslims have you not noticed that your Muslim neighbor hasn't tried to kill or convert you yet? He's lived there for six years!' The joke was funnier but more so due to the truth behind it.

Regardless of the fact that most of them indeed wouldn't try to kill you, that is a ridiculous comment to make and ridiculous way to look at things and not really funny. Many of them have and will live among people for many many years without doing anything. Some of them were neighbors for 30 years. So? Eventually they plotted it and did it. Just a stupid "joke".

Aww man, you took away my post 'splaining to him why comparing deaths from terror in western countries to gun deaths is ridiculous and why the only reason there's not thousands more each year is due to most of them being constantly thwarted by our fabulous governments.

Many of 'them?' Somehow I think you're a little bit confused about where most of the violence is occurring and for sure confused about who is doing most of the actual dying. Sorry but I'm not particularly afraid of the Muslims that I have had contact with.

Will there be a terrorist attack somewhere in the US in the future, probably in fact definitely. The history shows a pretty clear picture of the threat though and it is pretty minimal to the point of near non-existence as to the death toll and effectiveness. I refuse to engage in blanket hatred of anyone simply for their color or beliefs.

Having said that there is no room on the planet for ISIS and the other groups of like minded Radical Muslims, don't misrepresentat what I just said.

Looking at 2013 totals, it was 11000 firearm related homicides and 33000 firearm related deaths. Those figures are typical. Not sure how you arrived at 4000. Better to look these things up than guess.

I was applying the ratios to StayWoke's numbers that he posted. I didn't take the time to verify his "facts", simply applied a bit of stats to them. Point being, if one is going to compare deaths resulting from terrorism to firearm homicides, then suicides and accidental deaths SHOULD be removed from the equation.

The math was actually correct. a 2:1 ratio with 4,000 homicides would mean for every homicide there's two suicides so 8,000 for a total of 12,000. If you divided 12,000 by two you would get 6,000 each but then the ratio is 1:1.

You, Sir, are good with numbers. I appreciate your ability to comprehend (and explain to the masses) the complicated algorithms I used to come up with my claim. Also, for the poster to whom you were replying, the 12,000 number I opted to use came from another poster's proclamation. I was just rolling with his numbers, rather than pointing out the fact that it fluctuates, and is actually in decline.

You should consider a career working with numbers. Oh wait...

Wow it seems like no matter how you slice it, we have a lot of firearm deaths. Why would anyone want to increase the number of innocent dead people in this country by importing a bunch of people that hate us and want us dead?

It seems most here would agree that there are already too many firearm homicides in the US by people who have no respect for the laws of our great country. Now I must ask: Why would you want to bring thousands more into our country, who may not have any desire to convert their thoughts/beliefs to conform to "Western Infidel Ways", some of whom may actually be intent on jihad, when it would be SO EASY for said folks to get their hands on a gun and go on a killing spree? With as many crazies as already exist here in the US who are willing to take lives, does it make sense to import more?

And no, I am not saying all the refugees are bad apples. There are certain to be many that actually need help and would be appreciative of assistance. (At least until they arrive, settle in, and start complaining about how little they are getting, as they have already done in Europe) But I am sure that any time a company ships a trailer full of fruit to market, the grocery store ends up with a certain percentage of bad apples, amirite?

I know, and I was pointing out the figure he gave you was already adjusted. It was number of homicides, not number of total deaths. You did not need to apply ratios.
