Canadians spend more per capita on education. The populace has seen some benefits from that investment. Perhaps they understand statistical analysis and risk management a little better than we do.

 Well that settles it then, doesn't it? It's an education thing!! If only we pizzed away more tax dollars on public schools these folks wouldn't want us dead.

Two deaths from terrorist attacks in 25 years. Relatively open borders. Strict gun control. Thousands of refugees.

According to what I have read, Canada should have been blown to Hell by now. I'll assume by your response that you are not able to reconcile that reality with the hyperbole that has been posted.

Open borders? They only have one. Let's use your same logic with Europe. Relatively open borders. Strict gun control, Thousands of refugees. Numerous dead from terrorist attacks. So another swing and a miss.

If you rope off the EU, you'll find it's a closed border. Once yer inside, ya, it looks like open borders...

I think yer onto something there,

As,

I prefer a female from canada over any male from nigeria as my next personal bedwarmer...

And yes, i am a petitioner.

Junebug also feels this way, mostly.

Anyone that has followed the LEGAL immigration process knows that DOS discriminates based on the sex and origin of the petitioner. Compare men from Nigeria vs. women from Canada. I suspect the women from Canada have nearly a 100% success rate in getting a visa where the men from Nigeria probably have less than 50% Also, I'm fairly certain that the interview process is much more rigorous for the NIgerian than it is for the Canadian. So the govt. does set different standards for who is allowed and not allowed in to this country.

So you can't explain the situation in Canada then?

Like I stated earlier, just because it hasn't happened yet is no evidence that it will not happen. I can take a revolver and put a bullet in one of the chambers. I spin the cylinder once, put the gun against my head, and pull the trigger. Click, nothing happens. By your logic, this behavior is perfectly safe because nothing happened.

Like I said, your logic was used for airport security on Sept. 10, 2001.

Your logic is highly flawed, and frankly dangerous.

None of the terrorist deaths in Canada were related to refugees. I am not making an argument that terrorist attacks will not happen. My response was specifically to your assertion that taking in refugee's make's them a lock for a terrorist attack or even increases the odd. That hasn't been the case so far.

You, Sir, are good with numbers. I appreciate your ability to comprehend (and explain to the masses) the complicated algorithms I used to come up with my claim. Also, for the poster to whom you were replying, the 12,000 number I opted to use came from another poster's proclamation. I was just rolling with his numbers, rather than pointing out the fact that it fluctuates, and is actually in decline.

You should consider a career working with numbers. Oh wait... :)

LOL thanks.

Ok so the real number, for the real year 2013, was 11,000. Let's make sure and use your own 10,000 figure just to eliminate the gun deaths attributed to homicides that were really just badly categorized. But take it down even more to 8,000 since we just got a new figure for 2013.

8,000 gun homicides a real year 2013.

Vs 41, and I gave you the bonus of all Americans killed world wide since 911 and made the figure a more than generous 300.

OriZ apparently took the time to point out that there was no comparison and it was silly to try, between gun homicides in the single year (2013 here) and terrorist attack deaths here and abroad for Americans over a 14 year span. Unfortunately for him his post was deleted so we'll never know how he was able to explain what is obvious on its face, there is no comparison and the fretting, stewing and buying into ISIS propaganda is plain to see. As is the Muslim prejudice in such posts.

2,596,553 people died in the US in 2013 so obviously there are many ways to die but Islamic Terrorist attacks have to be at the proverbial low end of the stats that the risk is virtually incalculably small.

Ok I'll explain this again being the other conversation went south, so this one should stick around for a while hopefully.

Basically it was in regards to the article I posted from earlier and then another poster quoted from it that only 0.5% of deaths from terror are in western countries. To which I responded that I was actually hoping he would bring it up as I find it to be very telling. And why is this? Because if we take a look at the number of deaths worldwide, for instance almost 40,000 in 2014, and then take the terrorists' word, their own words, that they want to do it in the US and Europe, we can only come to one logical conclusion.

The fact they commit it around the world shows a want, will and ability. Obviously according to what they themselves say they have that same need and will to do it in western countries. So why has it not happened? What's the missing link? The ability part, of course. And WHY are they not able to? Well that brings me back to my question of which came first the chicken or the egg in response to another poster posting something about the money spent on different threats compared to the deaths from them.

What it proves is that there is in fact a direct correlation between the funds spent on combating terrorism and the deaths or lack therof from it. In the countries where most of the 40,000 people died, there was not the same intelligence and not the same effort or money spent on it.

So just taking numbers and shoving them at people saying 'see, only X amount of people die from terrorism in the US/Europe' is just ridiculous. Of course the other option is for everybody to just lie down and let them do what they want to do just to make those that try to compare it to gun violence happy cause trust me then there REALLY would be no comparison, as you would not believe how many attacks are thwarted almost daily around the world.

Quote from Canada's minister of defense.

"This crisis is not just about a humanitarian project," he said in his opening remarks to military commanders and defense ministers from around the world.

"This also sends a great message to ISIS that you might create this environment for us, but we will not let you take advantage of this," he said, using an alternate acronym for the IS group.

"By doing our part for this, we are actually hitting ISIS in a different way as well."

Sajjan also sought to allay security concerns raised since the Paris attacks, saying Canada is looking to bring over the most vulnerable and families with skills that could ultimately benefit Canada, and that they pose no threat to national security.

"They're not fleeing poverty; they're fleeing war," he said. "People who are settling are going to be contributing to our economy."

Are you trying to tell me that the US actually recognizes the threat of Islamic Terrorist attacks, and in fact actively seeks to thwart those terrorist attacks, and the Obama is doing nothing crowd of course will excommunicate you for heresy here is hugely successful at stopping terrorist attacks?

My assertion is that if you let a bunch of people in to the country and a decent percentage of these folks want you dead, it's gonna cause problems. That's a simple fact. Just because it hasn't happened in Canada on a large scale basis yet, does not mean they're somehow different. It just hasn't happened yet. If you look at everyone else that's helped out these folks, its bit them in the azz in the long run. I suspect you would've made this argument a year ago and used France as a an example of how good it all worked out. Today you cant do that. The places that haven't been affected by Islamic nuts bent on killing innocent people grows smaller every year.

I think you are confusing refugee's with terrorists. Or perhaps it's on purpose. Either way, I don't see the point of continuing this.
