Medical Exam - When do they expire for K1 applicants?

Hey Folks,

My fiancée and her daughter had their K1/K2 interview on March 19 in Ciudad Juarez, was denied (we knew this would happen) and was given the option to file the 212 and 601 waivers. We filed the waivers in late June and they were received at the NSC on June 25.

My question is this.... In the cases where people have had to file a waiver which obviously takes longer than 6 months, has anyone who has filed a K1 had to go back and take a new medical exam if it has taken longer than 6 months but less than 1 year to get a waiver approved. In our situation, if the K1 had been approved back in March, the 6 month window to use the visa would have been September. With the current processing times for the waivers it is possible we will be approved before the end of the year. I am wondering if my fiancée will have to go back to Juarez for another medical if she is approved before the 1 year anniversary of her visa interview. Since no vaccinations are required for K1/K2 applicants until the AOS, I am hoping that she and her daughter will not have to go back to Juarez just for a medical exam.

When a visa is issued, you do not have 6 months from the visa issuance date to enter the US- you have 6 months from the date of the medical.

For example- If you took a medical exam in April and your visa was issued in August, you would only have until October to enter (6 months after medical). The expiration date on your visa will mirror the 6 months since your medical exam.

I'm pretty sure they will need new medical exams before they will issue the visa.

When did she have her medical? K1 Visas are only valid 6 months from the medical date, not the interview/approval date.

The medical was on March 17. I was afraid of that. I took us a few months to put our waiver package together so that was valuable time we lost. Unfortunately that means a trip back to Juarez. They definitely don't make it easy on waiver filers.

Yep..Medicals are only good for 6 months... She'll need a new one.. They'll probably ssk for some updated information too. If your waiver isn't approved before January, they will probably want updated tax info too . I had to provide all updated stuff including the affidavit of support. And our waiver was approved in only 4 months ( December 2014 )

Check your country's thread , most countries are 6 mths but some are 12 mths
