Anyone ever file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau?

I have. I filed a complaint against US Airways because they didn't want to pay me for the stuff that was stolen out of my bag. They said I didn't report it in time even though I had my phone bill showing the phone call where I reported it. The BBB got them to send me a claim form. I had to fill it out and send it back in. I sent it in about a week ago. I guess they can still deny my claim even after they sent me the claim form to fill out but at least I feel better that I got to send one in. It was about $500 dollars worth of stuff that was stolen and I could only put about $250 on the form. I don't know if it will get any of my money back but at least they did something about it. I have to contact them again in another week if I haven't heard anything from US Airways by then. We'll see what happens.

Interesting.

I am being told that contacting my states Consumer Affairs people will be more helpful than the BBB. Your thoughts?

I was going to use BBB because I was charged for shuttle service after I had already paid the driver in cash. But, then as I was reading through some of the info on the BBB site and it said something about if a crime is involved then use other means. I figured a crime was involved -- the driver stole the money, so I didn't file a complaint. But, since this all happened in Mass. I am just sending a thirty day demand letter (as suggested by the Mass. Office of Consumer Affairs).

I don't know about the Consumer Affairs thing. I just knew the BBB handled complaints against companies so I decided to send them something and see what happened. It was fairly simple. They have the link on their website and you just fill in the info. It took about 30 days for me to hear something back from them but they tell you it will take about that long. Then I emailed the lady that sent me the letter because US Airways said they were sending the claim form on a certain day and like two weeks later I still didn't have it. It finally showed up on my door step, FedEx overnight. She must have contacted them again for me. Like I said, I don't know if I will ever actually get any money out of them but at least I made an effort. Sorry I wasn't any help on the Consumer Affairs deal.

Edited to add: I just checked on the web for Consumer affairs in NC and I didn't get anything. Not sure if we don't have it or if I am just stupid and can't find it. Either of which could be a good possibility. :D

Thanks for locating that for me. I guess we can see which option it turned out to be.:lol: I am not very good at navigating the web and finding things. I am surprised I ever found this website. Just lucky I guess. :D

Continental paid my friend for a lost bag even though she left a bag at their counter that she didn't even have a check-in ticket for. In other words: she had no proof that said lost bag ever existed in the fist place. They paid $400.00 for the bag and content anyways - without the need to raise hell with anyone.

Maybe that is the problem. I don't use google. I just use yahoo. I need to start googling more often.

Well there is a whole lot more to the story but I didn't go into that much detail. I could have added that I flew on Saturday and didn't get my bag back until Thursday. I could also add that they put my bag on a bus to who knows where without even telling me. I could also add that everytime I faxed the claims dept, because there is no phone number to call, I asked them to call me back and no one ever did. I was very disappointed in the service I got from them. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if I don't get any money from them.

To my suprise it states that this issue was resolved by the cleaners that they had sent me another email regarding this and the case would be closed. #######!??!!! It also had a link to click if there was more info to add to this case so I clicked on it and gave them a piece of my mind and told them the case ISN"T resolved and I'm still fuming over this!

We had a dry cleaner issue a while back too. One of their employees stole my clothes and we got nowhere with them, wouldnt give us the money for the clothes etc. In the end my husband made some leaflets and stood outside the door of the Dry Cleaners. Got the money back for the clothes the same day!!

Not as such but we had a complaint against a very well know national mortgage company who owed us $1500 from our escrow fund and it took them 11 months and a dozen phone calls and letters back and forth to get it. By the seventh phone call and being told we couldn't get the money which was ours I threatened them with the Attorney General''s Office. No response to that threat. However, by the tenth phone call, I told them I would formally complain to both BBB and AG's office and we had the check within 10 days!

Has anyone ever filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau? What was the outcome?

Yes! I filed one last year against VoiP.net over their billing practice. The BBB of Florida made several written enquiries regarding my specific case and they never responded to the BBB. VoiP eventually corrected the *uck-ups without ever responding to BBB. A few months ago I received a letter from BBB stating that the company never responded and BBB would be "marking" them and would continue to follow up.

Regardless of the outcome...black marking those bastards was well worth it to me...and filing was very easy to do on-line!

Good luck!

Mike
