congrats!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Nothing you can say or argue is going to be correct in this matter and I don't care how you perceive my attitude either.

So, how does one get appointed arbiter of what is "correct"?

You leave a cat 10 hours a day M-F?? Have you considered why the heck it claws your house down? I'd claw it too and ###### everywhere for good measure. There is a CLEAR reason why your cat scratches, but rather than address that reason you just take the easy thoughtless route. Cats natural behaviour is to be outside hunting and playing. Not to be locked in a show room.

Coyotes natural behaviour is to eat cats. And I've seen far too many squashed cats on the roads.

Guys, how often are cats supposed to go to the bathroom, out of curiosity?

Our cat hasn't used the litterbox yet, although I've put her in it once an hour and she can get into it herself now. We brought her home about 5 hrs ago. When should I become concerned?

LOL she's just nervous and excited in a new place. She will use it when she's ready. Did she eat and drink much since you brought her home ?

She is adorable in the pic -- you should feel quite honored that she chose you to be her human !

She had some sips of water but no food yet... ah well, we are going to bed. I hope she is just excited! She is the most affectionate cat ever. Keeping us imprisoned by sitting on our laps and purring whenever we try to do anything, lol

She seems like a real sweetie -- I am sure she will want to sleep on the bed with you

Don't worry too much -- cats are very good at taking care of themselves. She will eat and drink and use her box when she is ready. Enjoy having a clean litter pan while it lasts !

Five hours isn't enough time to be worried about. I'm sure she'll be fine >^..^<

Alex...I'm so happy for your choice. Mimi (or whatever name you choose) sounds like a great cat and she looks like one of my kitties Nacho. I wish you the very best of luck with her. As others have said, give her time. She will be comfortable in no time and using that litter box probably more than you would like. Drinking water is always the most important. Cats can actually go up to two weeks without eating and without even really feeling hungry. Tell that to my cats here at home and they would disagree but that's just because we get them on habits but they are fine. Fresh water everyday is essential though.

I also am very proud of you for being against the whole declawing thing. If your kitty knew better she would thank you too. The poster that kept comparing declawing to circumcision is just being ridiculous. They seem to be stretching for some justification or argument that their inhumane acts are okay, when in fact they are not. I mean seriously, declawing vs. circumcision. It's not the custom but rather the procedure. We're talking about a piece of skin vs. an entire joint/bone. HELLO!!!! Do you see the difference

Anyway...sorry Alex, didn't mean to go in that direction. I can't wait to see more pics and hear about your cat's progress.

Best of luck,

Erin

Because Rob or007 is misguided.

Alex ~ Congrats on the kitty! She may not be settled for days but don't worry too much. She'll eat when ready. One of my cats didn't eat for three days when I brought him over to the USA. He lost a little weight but it wasn't serious or anything to worry about. Cats are resiliant little creatures!

Takes them awhile to settle and get used to brand new surroundings. For the first few days, our kitten confined himself to the office, now he explores the whole place. Another cool item i bought for our cats was the Drinkwell pet fountain! Our older cat loves to play in it!! Cheapest place I found it was on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-Drinkwell-Pe...1QQcmdZViewItem

I have bought other pet stuff from debnro (ebay) and always got fast service. Only problem with the fountain, is that it has to be cleaned a few times a month, as crud tends to build up, and one has to replace the filters monthly. But our cats enjoy it.

Congrats Alex, she is precious!

Are ya keepin the name too? :)

I think she's going to keep it as her middle name but I'm thinking of naming her Madeline or Sophie because they kind of fit her. She kind of lacks the attitude for Mimi.

Oh and she kept me up ALL FRIGGING NIGHT. Ahem. She did use the bathroom at 1 and who knows when else and also ate some of her food around 4. Then she would repeatedly jump in my bed and try to sleep on me. I need to get more batteries for my camera because I'm missing too many adorable moments, like when we played with the "cat dancer" toy and she flipped out.

She is a big-time kitten.
