Sort of what I did in Colorado.

Not sure I agree with the skid question and answer.

Then the practical which was a joke drive around the block.

People had told me the US test was super easy, I really did not believe them.

What I found works best are the FREE apps for iOS/Android -- there are so many of them. I dunno about FL despite now living here -- I took my test in VA but got my licensed converted to FL when I moved. The test is what most cynical Americans would describe as "retardedly easy" but despite how easy it is, it's best to go in confident, and to get you confident, download and play those drivers test apps. You'll have fun AND feel more confident come the written/computerized test.

My test was on a computer screen -- just like the apps are. Except you get a bigger screen and it's not as colorful as the apps :P but gives you the closest experience to the real thing.

I also recommend you download the free copy of the DMV manual: this contains very important things that you will need to know and also reinforces what you need to study for the test. Remember not to just study to "pass" the test but also to be a law-abiding and responsible driver in the US! Welcome to our roads and stay safe!

Believe it or not, I actually managed to fail the US driving test

In my defense, I'd never had a full UK license, only a provisional (the equivalent of a learner's permit), I took the test in a minivan and I failed on parallel parking.

Not in my defense, that was 14 years ago and I still can't parallel park the damn minivan.

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".

I had to drive round a very quiet residential area for 5 mins. There was no other traffic. I had to back up about 5 feet and he never asked me to parallel park. The written test for the permit was harder than the road test.

They've taken parallel parking out of the MD test now. Not that I'm bitter or anything...

Oh yeah - and since I'd never had a full license, I had to do the 30-hour Driver's Ed course with the fifteen year olds. So that was fun ^_^

There wasn't parallel parking in the UK test when I took it many years ago so I'd never had to do it. Before my test I practiced it for hours until I was sure I could do it in my sleep. It is still a requirement in the MA test. I was almost disappointed when he didn't ask me to do it. Almost! :D

The reason I'd never had a full UK licence is that I failed the test when I took it in the UK too. Guess what I failed on? Parallel bloody parking. Didn't know they'd taken it out of the UK test too. I feel cheated ;)

They didn't take it out of the UK test. They added it after I sat my test in the 80s. It's still in it as far as I know so if you ever move back you better start practicing!

Ha! I sat the US test again in a mid-size car instead of a livingroom on wheels, passed with no problems and I've had my US license for 14 years. It's only the minivan I can't parallel park these days. And this is why I do not drive the minivan into DC :)

Parallel is not required in Colorado and certainly was back in the day in the UK, I had to do mine on a hill.

CO would not have known if I had another license.

In MA they ask you on the application form if you hold a license from anywhere else. The cop asked me before he started the test if I'd previously held a license. I'm wondering if he went easy on me because I already had a license or if it's really that easy for everyone.

Just passed Ohio driving test . Was a bit upset that I can't just convert my Ontario license to Ohio . Basically have to do all other again ( eye exam , written test )

driving test The process was easy . Actual driving test , much much easier comp. to Canada ( Ontario) .

I found the written test a bit difficult because the Miles , MPH not Km , Km/ph etc .

I guess it's should be fine for people from Non- metric Countries. I done that , but not 100%.

From 40 questions if 11 was wrong -you not passed .

For Ohio http://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/hsy7607.pdf

Plus please Google some free practice test for Ohio. Lots of questions was very similar . Whole experience of doing test was peasant . Agents ( test-drive officers ?) was very professional. No even for a second I had a feeling that someone had agenda to fail me . Looks like they only really care if you know the subject and can drive .

Good luck !

Agree the Written test was actually harder . Some people also ask about if the previous driving license is helped . I guess it depend which part of US you moving to . Lets say Canadian driving license is recognized in NY and Arizona but not in Ohio. But is better always check Department of Motorized Vehicles ( DMV ) of your State .. as an example for OHIO http://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/hsy7607.pdf page 17
