I've had my temporary immigrant visa expire in october (the one they put in my passport), but I have run into issues getting my actual green card in the mail. It's the card for my conditional residency for 2 years. I had to send in the form a few times but I finally got them a month ago to try sending the card again since it failed the first time for some inadequately explained reason... Some stupid thing about postal failure that makes no sense but whatever. Anyways, should I be worried? Does it implicate anything? I'm going to be trying to get my driver's license but I still have my g2 from Canada, hopefully it won't make my life difficult.

You should go get an I551 stamp in your passport. Im unsure why it's tken you so long to get your hard copy green card. Has the USC contacted their congressman?

Oh.. is that what that stamp is by the visa? I knew something lasted a year, but it had been so long since I last looked at it all I checked was the expiration date on the actual IV temporary card in my passport. If that's the case, then it still is good until a year from my entry ?

Also it's taking forever since it mysteriously failed to be mailed by the post office.. I had to send in that "resent lost/unmailed card" form two times before it decided to go through, now I had to wait 3 months for my green card again to hopefully arrive and not have more holdups...I did that like a month ago.

You don't need to get a separate I-551 stamp. Your immigrant visa automatically turned into an I-551 valid for one year from the date of your entry. You can get driver's licenses and work and travel and whatever with that. Just remember it's not a "visa", but rather, proof of permanent residency. If you say "visa" then people will look at it and say it's expired and you can't use it.

Okay when was your entry to the USA?

The entry stamp beside the visa turns your visa into a temporary green card valid until the date on the stamp. I was assuming you knew this and it had been a year since your entry.
