...no seriously, thank you for coming. That makes my job a lot easier." Those were the first words spoken to me and my fiancé by the Interviewing Officer as we approached the counter after showing my passport. If ever I doubted the power of attending my fiancé's interview, I didn't any longer.

Long story short, we were approved! I want to thank the sages who have suggested in so many posts and in so many ways that the petitioner should if at all possible attend the interview. Would he have been approved without me?...probably but I can say definitively that It was money well spent. He was so nervous and me being able to rub his back and squeeze his hand and whisper words of encouragement meant the world to him. It told him and the IO that this was important and he was important. He had been denied a visitors visa several times prior and no matter what I had said about this being totally different, those words "denied" still echoed in his mind and haunted him even beyond the IO telling us after a few benign questions, "You've been approved." (I'll give full detail in my review).

I can't name names to thank, for there are quite a few, insightful caring and experienced voices who have contributed to my growing understanding of this process. So should you, the petitioner, attend the interview? Yes, if possible show solidarity. Is it a requirement? Not written, atleast not at my embassy in Kingston. Whatever you decide, be informed and be confident in knowing you made the choice that best suits you. Good luck to you on your journey!

Well said gw68ad78! Could not agree more. If you have the time - be there for the interview! It's a fallacy to believe that approval/denial is already "a done deal" before the interview. Nobody has evidence to support that silly notion. In fact, there's plenty of proof that some denials happen because of the interview. Why have an interview if paperwork dictates outcome? It doesn't. If you can't afford the trip, then maybe you shouldn't be getting married. Being cheap on (arguably) one of the biggest days of her/his life is for fools and failures. Be supportive by being there for the interview. Too many people getting married for the wrong reasons.

Congratulations on your visa approval. :joy:

A little note: Not all US embassies allow the USC to attend the interview with the foreign spouse. While it's pretty much a must in e.g. Jamaica and Ghana, there are many other embassies who do not allow the USC inside at all. So check with the embassy first.

Dec 21st 2015 - 221(g) issued at interview for updated forms


Jan 13th 2016 - Mailed our reply to the 221(g) to the US Embassy, received and CEAC updated the next morning


Jan 20th 2016 - Embassy require more in-depth info on asset for i-864


Feb 1st 2016 - Sent more in-depth info on assets as requested. Received the next morning


Feb 16th 2016 - Visa has been issued :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing:



In the US


April 5th 2016 - POE Newark. No questions asked.


April 14th 2016 - SSN received


May 10th 2016 - First day at my new job :dancing:


May 27th 2016 - Green Card received


June 7th 2016 - Got my Texas driver's license

I just finished a brief review and listed the questions in my comments. They were few and very generic and "seemed" conversational when he started talking to me. I'm sure he's well trained but it was a pleasant experience nonetheless. There was one women who looked at beneficiaries sideways and with her arms folded. I prayed we didn't get her!

Jamaica does not require the petitioner to attend. In fact, I believe a couple of other VJ members were approved solo on the same day as us.

wrong info Jamaica do NOT requires the petitioner at interviews DR does in that region

unless a stoke interview is require & not the norm usually

06/15/2016- Interview, given option to file I-601 waiver.
08/16/2016- Waiver submitted (no lawyer).
11/21/2016- Waiver approved with expedite.

04/2017- Fourth visit to Nigeria.  K1 officially denied. 
04/25/2017- NOA1 for 2nd K1.
07/27/2017- Case transferred to TSC.

I wish so too! I find the inconsistencies across embassies fascinating. It makes since to bring your fiancé as your best piece of supporting evidence of a bonafide relationship but that's when if you can't bring them to your interview you have them wait nearby and take in their passport. At least that's what I would do as suggested by some other sages in previous posts.

NVC Received : some dinkelsberry yehoo in the house of clingons send our petition to the wrong consulate.

Consulate Received : July 30,2014 Transfer to right embassy complete.

Interview Date : Oct 22, 2014

Interview Result : AP , requesting another PC (not expired) and certified divorce decree (was submitted)Stokes interview via phone for petitioner 4 hrs after interview.

Oct 23 email notification visa approved.
Visa Received : Nov. 3 , 2014 VISA IN HAND.

US Entry : Nov. 21, 2014

Marriage : Dec 27, 2014

AOS send : May 12, 2015, received May 14, 2015 USPS priority

Email &text : May 18, 2015, check cashed May 19,2015, return receipt May 21, 2015 stamped USCIS Lockbox, NOA1 (3x) May 22,2015

Biometrics : June 1, 2015 letter received for appointment June 8, 2015, successful walk-in June 1, 2015

RFE : June 12, 2015 for income not meeting guideline. Income does ( ! ) exceed guideline.

RFE response : June 26, 2015 returned with a boat load full of financial evidence.

UPDATE: July 5, 2015 updated on all 3 cases, RFE received June 30, 2015.

Service request : Aug 12, 2015, letter received that it will be processed within 90 days from receipt of RFE.

UPDATE: Aug 24, 2015, EAD card being produced/ordered. ( 102 days from AOS receipt day and 55 days from RFE response received.) Thank you Jesus !

Sept. 21 Interview, 2 hour interview, we were separated and asked about 50 questions each for an hour each. IO was firm but professional, some smiles.
Several service requests made, contacted Senator and Ombudsman. Background checks still pending.
July 21, 2017 HOME VISIT.  Went well. Topic thread in AOS forum.
Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.
