Hi All

I am wondering if someone could give me an answer as I cant seem to find any info on this anywhere.

My wife and I are planning to visit the U.S. in January for 2 weeks vacation and she has her visa interview next week here in Sydney.

I am an Australian citizen so I don't need to apply for a visa as I can travel on the VWP but she is a Filipino citizen living here in Australia on a spouse visa which allows her to reside and work in Australia until she gets her permanent residency / citizenship (in approx 3-4 years) and as a result still needs to apply for a visa to travel the U.S.

As we answered on the DS-160 form that she was a homemaker (unemployed) and that I would be funding the entire trip, can you advise if I need to provide her with any documentation other than a letter from my employer

as I read on the US embassy website that's all that was required?

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Mick

Your wife will have to prove to the satisfaction of the US consular official at the interviewing US embassy/consulate, that she has significant ties to Australia such that she would return to Australia after her US visit is completed. Such ties could include, property, house ownership, current stable employment, etc. Each visitor visa applicant is presumed to have immigration intent, and must prove that they are not trying to immigrate to the US. A letter from a doctor, any documents from you would likely have no positive effect on the visitor visa approval.

Good luck.

Thanks for your replies.

Whilst I do understand that it is her own visa application and she needs to prove ties linking her back to Aus, the only current tie she has is me and my family and that we are married. We do have a joint bank account here in Aus and we are also travelling together for the duration of the trip and will be exiting the USA together so we definitely have no intention of overstaying hence my question on whether I need to provide her with any extra documents which would assist in getting her tourist visa approved. We are just a little confused as there is not much info anywhere on this.

Not much info? Really?

canberra.usembassy.gov/mobile/step5_niv_process.html

5 second google on my phone.

Note where it states:

Please note that bank letters that state that you have sufficient funds or letters from family members promising to cover your expenses are not sufficient. Applicants are advised to bring bank statements that reflect their account balances.

Only document that she has sounds like her legal presence in Australia.

Hi Boiler, yes you are correct, the only document she has currently here is her legal presence.

As I said, she doesn't have a job and we answered that she was a home maker on the DS-160 form.

I am looking after all her expenses here and paying for all holiday related expenses when we go.

I'm hoping the US consulate will recognize that we are travelling together (even though my passport is on a VWP) and our lives are based here in Australia, will ensure she wont overstay in the US.
