They still are. I was in DC when that happened. I remember if you weren't black, white, hispanic, or Asian, you got the cops called on you. Just for walking down the street. I can't even imagine what it was like for any Muslims to fly right afterwards.

I was going back and forth to Canada a lot around that time through the Sweetgrass, MT crossing. The secondary area there was right out in the open, just a cordoned off holding area. You could see everyone in there. It was not a good time to be crossing while brown.

...From my Cold, Dead Hands

I hope you're OK.

I honestly think some countries must look at the US and shake their heads.

How can anyone argue that gun control doesn't work in France when their gun deaths aren't even in the same ball park as ours?

France: Gun control = 263 deaths over a 150 year period

USA: 300 million plus guns = 11,559 gun deaths as of today. This year alone.

France: Mass shootings = 11 since 1875

USA: Mass shootings= 291 this year alone.

What am I missing?

This is what bothers me more than anything. When folks start identifying Muslims as terrorists, it's going to be another dark day for America.

I can't imagine why these xenophobic people seem to connect global terror and Islam

Unfortunately I like paying attention to detail. In that "gun violence" chart - you know that part where it says homicide, accident and suicide?

Yes so they included suicide in there as gun violence. Because there's no way that those people would have found a different way to kill themselves had they not had guns. And in places with gun control, nobody kills themselves dontcha know?

And accidents only happen with guns, and homicides too. Right.

The lengths the left will go to...

The chart plainly states that. It's not pretending to be just gun murder vs terrorism. It's not trying to trick you.

These charts have been around forever. They typically use the gun violence ~30000 number or the gun murder figure of ~10000. Both numbers are relative suck compared to other countries. Believe it or not, we don't just have more gun related murders than other countries, we also have more gun related accidents and gun related suicides.

Regardless of which figure is used, there is a common denominator.

The problem with those stats is that they are not per capita or per 100,000. Naturally in such a big country you would have more homicides than alot of countries. However when you list the homicide rate per 100,000 the US is right in the middle(121 out of 218). True, that means that 107 countries fared better(but it's not always about faring somewhat better with certain dry stats when it comes to freedom), but many countries with very strict gun control also fared worse.

Also important to remember is that contributing to those stats were incident that happened in "gun free zones".

I can't imagine why these xenophobic people seem to connect global terror and Islam

Would it be for the same reason people connect gun owners to gun violence? I mean, stats get used when trying to correlate other things, but when it's gun violence vs terrorism, it's a clear indicator you're a billion times more likely to get shot by an American than a terrorist.

Hey, since the percentage of gun deaths is astoundingly high, why don't we detain gun owners? Since we're using the same logic against Muslims?

What's your point Ortiz?

Take a good look at how many people have been killed by guns this year and scroll down to the murder articles. Those aren't suicides or accidents.

If you want to argue your point from your "moderate" POV, please show me how more guns is making us safer here in the US when the numbers are right there in front of you.

Anyway, the point of the graph was to show the relative numbers of deaths caused by terrorism vs guns. Using just murders would have been more appropriate, I guess, since all terrorism related deaths would be murders. The article was posted in another thread and perhaps I should have re-linked. The point being how much we spend and how much of our rights we have given up in the war on terror vs how many deaths are causes annually, compared to the same thing with firearms.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/oct/05/viral-image/fact-checking-comparison-gun-deaths-and-terrorism-/

So a few hundred deaths a year from terrorism is worth fighting WWIII, but 10000 deaths is just collateral damage?
