Not many here realize that what's going on has nothing to do with religion, so much as the manipulation of a mass of individuals. Just because a few brain-washed shout 'god is great' and open fire on innocent people, doesn't justify their acts, nor does it actually make it a religious act. We have seen people use religion as an excuse to commit atrocities for thousands of years. Christians looted cities - Jerusalem included - allegedly in the name of god. Jesuits subjugated native populations and enslaved them in the name of god, and they were no better than these terrorists. That these crazy nutjobs do so under the excuse they are following the Bible, Torah or Q'ran doesn't make it so, and very few understand that. Alas, I'd say that they know well , but to the hygrophile and the adepts of their self-indulging practices, it's easier to pretend that the god of Abraham would send any its children to kill someone in its name.

What these terrorists do in the name of god, no more justify their actions, than inscribing Pslams on bombs, and dropping them on entire populations make them any less obscene; however, the jergens must sell, and if we were to take a good look at history, we would realize no one is free of guilt, and no one is 100% innocent, which doesn't mean one should be judged, convicted and executed summarily.

To call them Muslim, is to give them the recognition they want, and to concede them a moral victory. If we in the West don't have the common sense to realize this has nothing to do with religion, and to say so to the world, how can we expect to convince those who are prone to be radicalized that they are not in the righteous and religious path? It all starts with an idea. We have the intellectual wherewithal - or at least most of us do - to call barbarism for what it is, and to see it for the obscene lie that it is when it presents itself under the cloak of any religion. To do otherwise is to give the terrorists the moral victory they so desperately need. It's akin to pandering of the huge chip they all carry on their shoulders. To concede the title of Muslim to these animals, is to acquiesce to their claim, that the ISIS caliphate is recognized as a bonafide state.

People cant comprehend that it's a war of civilizations.

Twelve years ago, I converted to Islam to marry a Tunisian. It was a purely formal conversion. I remained fundamentally agnostic until 20 months ago, I experienced a spiritual revelation, started to believe in God and to practise my religion of adoption.

We must take the lead in fighting and hunting down extremists, not just beside, but ahead of, our Christian, and Jewish brothers and sisters.

In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks earlier this year, I felt it was my duty as a concerned Muslim citizen to express my outrage at having my religion hijacked by mindless thugs.

With several French Muslim theologians and intellectuals, we launched the “Khlass le silence!” (“Enough with the silence!”) movement, which called on French Muslims to take the lead in the struggle against the monsters who make a sordid mockery of our religion.

Despite the emotion felt throughout France and the French Muslim community, our appeal fell largely on deaf ears.

Less than a month later I teamed up with Anwar Ibrahim, the charismatic leader of Malaysia’s opposition; the Palestinian-Austrian theologian Adnan Ibrahim; and a number of other authoritative Muslim figures from all around the world.

Together, we argued that while our natural instinct as Muslims to distance ourselves from the jihadists, saying that the latter have “nothing to do with Islam”, was understandable, it was dubious intellectually and altogether irresponsible to keep our reaction at that.

The last serious attempt at launching a movement of Islamic reform, led by the Egyptian Muhammad Abduh at the turn of the 20th century, ended up in failure and gave way to the creation of the Muslim brotherhood.

To overcome the state of denial described above and the moral decadence that is affecting many of us, nothing less than a new movement of Islamic reform is needed.

Despite some welcome marks of support, our calls continued to go unheeded. Our initiative was attacked or ridiculed by many in the French Muslim community and we were soon branded apostates by Islamic State (my picture appeared along with death threats in their French language propaganda magazine Dar al Islam).

Not a single Muslim leader came to our defence in France when that happened, and barely a thousand of our fellow Muslims manifested their support for our initiative.

On this ignominious day, the time has come for me to repeat with a greater sense of urgency still what my cosignatories and I said earlier this year:

“My dear Muslim brothers and sisters, it is time to make our voices heard: we must rise up massively and tell the barbarians who ordered, executed or condoned the acts of mass murder just committed in Paris that from now on we will take the lead in fighting and hunting them down, not just beside, but ahead of, our Christian, Jewish, or agnostic brothers and sisters.

I do not believe a war on the Islamic State is a war on Islam. The (vast) majority of Muslims live in Asia, not the middle east. It seems that the call for war would focus on the area where the terrorists originated.

The Netherlands have declared that they are in a state of war with ISIL, in line with the French. Whatever gets said here, it is already beginning.

About a month after Russia got involved in Syria, ISIS took out a Russian aircraft. The French began airstrikes against ISIS in Syria about a month and a half ago. I'll go with Occam's razor on this one.

You have people dead set on killing the religion itself. They can now use ISIS as a cover for their hatred of Muslims as a reason to declare war on Muslims and say they must all die.
