Hi, I entered USA with CR1 on Feb 2014 and in FEB 2016 my green card will expire, i'm in my way to send the application to remove the condition I-751,

i received a letter from DMV with the title of " Identification card limited term extension" i would like to know if one of you received the same letter!!, and what to do in this case? this letter says:

Your limited term identification car will expire soon.To extend your limited term identification card. you must submit satisfactory proof that your presence in USA has been extended .........

please photocopy your legal presence document ..........................

provide your SSN ...................................... and mail those to .....................DMV

What do i have to do now ?i still have the same Green card that they have in file with the expiration date Feb 2016, what do i have to send ? i still didn't send my application to receive the extension letter to show it to them

please help, this will help me and help the others that their Green card will expire soon

When you submit your I-751, you will receive an extension letter soon after, which is proof that your permanent resident status has been extended for one-year while your Removal of Conditions is adjudicated. You show this letter to the DMV, it is your legal presence document, and they might want to see your expired/expiring green card too.

Edit: Just to add, I received this letter a while back too, though I'm in California.

Thanks for your answer , what about now?, do you think i should call them and explain to them that i need to send my application first in order to receive the extension letter, ? or just ignore the letter from DMV and wait until i receive the extension letter, i mean after i send the application?

Wouldn't send anything original in the mail, you may never see it again. Was the same thing back then for my wife with the DMV, we went in, in person.

If I were you, I would send off your ROC package as soon as you can... A few weeks, at the latest, before your license and green card expire. As soon as you get your extension letter, march down to the DMV with your letter and green card, and apply to renew your license in person. if you send anything via USPS to the DMV, like the letter asks, it will end up being a drawn-out, stressful process (as I discovered a few years back). Attending the DMV in person, they can issue you a new temporary license on the spot, and your proper one will come in the mail shortly. And, of course, don't drive on an expired license.

The following post has been edited and returned to the thread, as follows:

I am wondering how many people here have successfully gotten a DL renewed based on the one year extension letter.

I know it varies by state, but seems like I read somewhere here that some states refuse to renew based on the one year letter, because they don't know what [edited by VJ Moderation] it is, and don't want to know.

Reason for editing: "Attempt to bypass the Forums language filter through the use of alternative characters to spell profanities or through the posting of images containing profanity."

VJ Moderation Team

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
