Hi. This is a really nice site. I've been looking at the Processing Times and Timelines for the K visas. It seems to me that the times for each are about the same and what really makes the difference is the time of application, the fiance's country and to which service center it is sent to. Am I right? If so, would it be just as well to marry in the fiance's country? It won't take much longer, would it? I think marrying first would be nicer.

Most of the petitioner's petitions get transferred to California Service Center except for the eastern part of the US stays at Vermont Service Center. Plus, it depends on if your fiance will file petition right away. K-1 route usually between 6-9 months, K-3 around the same or more and CR route around 12 to 14 months.

What state does your fiance live in?

I've looked at your timeline and you should be approved right about this time and additional 3-6 months stuck at NVC depending on how quick your husband responds to NVC paperwork. Since K-3 hasn't been filed, and 6 months past, in my opinion, no sense in filing for K-3. That's up to the both of you.

It seems the K-1 and K-3 process is about the same length now. My wife and I preferred being married in the Philippines so her family and friends could see her get married. We'll have a small ceremony/party here after she arrives for my family and friends. I was told by someone that's an expert in immigration (specifically from the Philippines) that a K-3 petition carries more 'weight' than a K-1. That really wasn't a factor for us though. We chose the K-3 process because we liked the idea of being married during the process and the fact that a K-3 is a multiple entry visa. That allows us to travel because my wife can come in and out of the US with her K-3.

Doesn't cutest_girl's timeline look a bit odd? They're 5 months waiting for the NOA2 through the Vermont Service Center. Seems way overdue.

Washington state for American citizen. :) I'm from the Philippines. Thanks all so much for the info. That's nice about the multiple-entry visa. I think we will go for K-3 now.

Alohaspirit, are you Filipino? I notice those links. Going to check them out. Do I need a police clearance aside from an NBI clearance?

No I'm not Filipino. Yeah go check them out. It's better than so you won't have to search too much. We even have an immigration expert on board.

If you had lived for more than 6 months in another country, then a police certificate is needed.

Yep, it is odd but many members complain about it now.

JadeVisa,

Now that the I-129fs for spouse are being processed by the same people who process the I-129fs for fiancee, I think you've pretty much got the right perspective on things.

One item that could make a significant difference depends on what you consider the starting point for the timeline to be. If your starting point is today, how soon can you be ready to submit an I-129f for fiance? And how soon can you get married and ready to submit an I-129f for spouse?
