Transit visa so we can meet in Bahama's while still in AP for K-1?

I've found some stuff already regarding this, but it's old stuff and I wanted to see if anyone has dealt with this lately.

We're waiting in AP on Visa MANTIS check for my Fiance' to get her K-1 Visa. Not seeing each other for 7 months and me banned from flying to her (military won't allow my transit to her country) we want to spend Christmas in the Bahamas.

Problem: Basically all the flights (barring the ridiculously overpriced London to Bahama direct flights) fly through a US Airport, most if not all involving an overnight stay in the airport.

Question: Does she need a transit visa? If so, is this possible since she's waiting on an AP decision for a K-1 Visa?

Bonus question: Does this transit visa have a painstaking process like the K-1 visa, interviews an all?
