I believe in Angels, what if the beggar was really an Angel in disguise?

Suffice to say, I would give them money.

My life has been blessed with the love of 4 of the sweetest men in the world. James, Jonathan, Nicolas, and Islam, my sons and my S/O.

OPSSSSSSS I DID IT AGAIN!

yup... i would give Food too... in my early 20's I knew a few kids that would panhandle... and take that money to buy heroin :( SO i tend NOT to give.. especially if they are looking healthy.. some what clean.. etc..

There is this guy in Harvard Square.. that have been rumored for the past 15 years to be this Genius Harvard Professor that just Cracked on day and now lives on the streets. He stands there talking to himself.. like he is giving a Dissertation.. or lecture.. I have always wished I could record what he was saying or follow him around.. It doesnt sound like a drunken rant.. For some reason the movie Good Will Hunting always comes to my head when I hear him.. He is filthy with long hair, beard.

When ever I see him.. I always buy him a scone/ muffin or whatever.. He stops his lecture to say "Oh, thank you." and then starts where he left off..

And other than that.. IF i was to give money.. It would probably be in another country.. Like when I go to Egypt.. they have No shelters.. or food programs.. nothing..

Poverty/ homelessness in third world countries.. has NOTHING on poverty/ homelessness in the States !

You know I think the guy who stands in front of Au Bon Pain handing out the Spare Change newspaper? I could swear he actually was in Good Will Hunting. Where does this professor guy stay? I don't think I've ever come across him...

The shelters in New Haven charge money for entrance, so I tend to give small change.

And the guys with the Abercrombie jacket and Nike shoes, around here, at least, probably got them secondhand from Salvation Army.

Lately I see him hanging around Pete's... and in that little park.. But honestly I've seen him hangin around ever since I'd cut school and hang out in Harvard Sq.. 15 plus years ago!

I'll have to check out the Spare change guy the next time I go..

I went to Washington DC a while back when I was in the Civil Air Patrol (a nonprofit organization with the US Air Force) We were warned that there are people out there that do impersonate homeless people. I came across one of those. He was a very large man had his young child out there with him... and they both were dressed head to toe in nice NEW Nike clothes..very clean cut as well. He held a sign saying, " We are Homeless and need money".

Now here where I live..there are people that I know are homeless...one man has been walking the streets for over 20 years! But he goes to homeless shelters and stays. He also has a bank account (cause he banked with us)...with thousands of dollars in it. So, for some, I do genuinely feel sorry for...but others I do not....and me being a single mother for so long...can't say I'd give up my hard earned pennies when there are so many programs out there to get them help. They just have to want the help.
