Visa Corrections and Petition Renewal

Hi everyone! I just wanted to make a post to answer a bunch of peoples questions that I've been seeing around about the "petition expiration" on their K1 visas!

So I recently got my visa issued and upon recieving my visa, I immediately noticed there were two things about my visa that alerted me.

1) Under the petitioners name, they listed my father and not my fiance!

2) My petition had expired about two-ish months before I had recieved my visa (I had been in AP for a while)

I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that the only name that should be listed as the petitioner is your fiance(e), no one else, not even your sponsor (if you have a separate sponsor)!

A lot of other websites for different embassies had a site designated to visa corrections, however the germany embassy's website was very unclear and vague about visa corrections and such.

Since there was a bunch of posts about the petition expiration date, and many people were mixed on the wether or not it would be safe to fly in with an expired petition date, I decided better safe than sorry and request to renew my petition as well and get the name changed.

I emailed the embassy on a saturday night, and recieved an email back on monday afternoon. They were very helpful and clear about my situation, however when I first asked I had only asked about changing the petitioners name and not the petitions expiration.

The request to change the petitioners name required ONLY my passport, nothing else. So I sent my passport along with a letter asking if they could renew my petitions expiration date and two new signed versions of our original letters of intent.

A day after the embassy had recieved my passport, they emailed me saying they required my entire package as well. I'm not sure if they needed it because they needed to change the petitioners name in anything they had written or put in there, or if they needed it because I also requested a petition renewal.

In any case, it took them a total of 5 work days from the day I sent my passport to them to recieve my passport and package back.

During the time they had my passport and package they did update the second listed date on CEAC tracker, but they did not email me with a tracking number when they sent my passport and package back. In a way it was kind of like an early christmas, as I had not been expecting it to come.

All in all, I'd say it was an extremely easy process. I probably stressed myself out way more than I needed to, but there was legitmately nothing to be stressed out about. It was the easist process ever and the people whom I was in contact with at the embassy were very friendly, and clear about what they wanted and where and how to send it.

I hope this helps anyone who is looking for an answer to this!! I couldnt find any, so I thought I could make a post to help any future me's out there! :)

I'm flying out on thursday!! Have a great daaaay! :goofy::energy::star:
