Bible doesn't prohibit alcohol either. Im sure Jesus wouldn't have turned water into wine if it did.

Yeah, sure seems like an endorsement to me.

I don't think he would have even given the apocrypha any credence. In fact, the books chosen to comprise the new testament were all written decades after he was dead. Jesus followed no bible.

Is it.

Since it's there, you should have no problem copying and pasting the Surah for us.

Only a a couple references to alcohol:

Surat Al-Ma'idah [5:90] says: "O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah ], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful."

I don't see anything about tables do you?

There is a Surah forbidding prayer while intoxicated, that doesn't say anything about tables either.

Methinks you are making stuff up. In Islam, that's called "Bidah", making up doctrines.

Lots of teachings on that.

Ali ibn Abu Talib, of the Rashidun (rightly guided Caliphs), said; "He who innovates or gives protection to an innovator, there is a curse of Allah and that of His angels and that of the whole humanity upon him." `Abd Allah ibn `Umar said: "Every innovation is misguidance, even if the people see it as something good."

Making stuff up like that here gets you lashes. Next.

Family friends growing up told us this. While I don't have a link or a Quran, I do believe the person who told us.

There are a million+ hits explaining this if you google it though, and the overwhelming consensus is you cannot and the explanation is given as I said.

Are you an authority on Islam? I know you live there but I'm just asking. I consider the person who told me this to be extremely knowledgeable so I'd like to know where your understanding comes from.

Authority? LOL not at all.

No, but I have a lot of Muslim friends and have come to know a lot about the rules, guidelines, regulations here, and it was one of them who clued me on the fact that the Quran actually mentions alcohol a very few times, never mentions a penalty for it, and never forbids it. We have many discussions on similarities and differences between religions and about what rules are based on the Quran, what rules are based on Hadith, and the rules that are based on neither but are just customs. The face cover that the ladies wear would be one of those.

The listed above is every single reference to alcohol in the Quran.

Surprising the Quran does not mention the death penalty for adultery. Lashing, or banishment, but not the death penalty or stoning. Something else I was clued to. Some of these guys have the Quran memorized word for word and are quite good at listing chapter and verse for every single reference on something.

I don't know what's on the menu when Netanyahu is there although would be interesting to find out. That being said, if they DID serve pork I would see no problem with that either, as long as they served other things he COULD eat. And if it was me in his place I definitely would not throw a fit. Just like when I go to my wife's family's functions and they serve non kosher food or alot of meat I have no issue. Mind you I don't practice so kosher doesn't matter to me anyway(I actually love my wife's pork chops) but that's besides the point.

I think there would be a difference between state functions and vacations or pleasure visits as far as protocol. I'm not pretending to know what the protocol is though.

It's the first state visit in years by an Iranian president. I find it hard to believe appropriate accommodations can not be attempted by both parties. Apparently Hollande suggested breakfast as an alternative and Rouhani rejected as being too cheap. Hard to believe.

Something the catholics would cheerfully agree with since they appear to slug down wine on any excuse or occasion

Having grown up in an Italian Catholic family, I can vouch that no event or holiday is without the magical grape juice. Although my Grandfather and Uncles used to prefer whiskey with a beer chaser while playing a few games of morra.
