Hello Everyone,

I filed an I-130 petition for my spouse who lives in Ghana. We had our wedding in a church and received the Marriage Certificate afterwards (From the Church) which is legitimate so long as the church is licensed to perform marriage ceremonies.

I Received an RFE recently pertaining to the fact that there is no evidence on the certificate showing that the marriage was registered with the appropriate civil register.

After some investigations, we realized that our certificate didn't have the Ghana Coat-of-Arms on it. Most people we spoke to (Employees of the registry) claim that this the reason why we have the RFE. The church has been advised to procure the correct version of the certificate and transfer all the details from the previous one.

I am seeking anyone especially from Ghana who has or knows somebody who has experienced this issue and how they went about it. I want to make sure I am sending the right document in response to the RFE. All help is welcome.

I also got married in church and we have the church certificate with license number but no coat of arms. But I am yet to file. I will be following this topic to see the responses.

Today, i took my certificate to ssa to do a name change and they looked at it some weird kinda way.

Case dispatched to diplomatic pouch : 01/11/2017

Case dispatched from diplomatic mail service to NVC : 01/23/2017

Case arrived at NVC: 01/26/2017

NVC sent case to USCIS : 02/09/2017 (system update)

Case receive by USCIS (text & email notification): 03/07/2017

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

Hi there,

I took a confirmation letter from the Registrar General's Department.

Basically you have to give them a letter from the minister of the church where you married (On a church letter head), A letter from you requesting a Letter of Confirmation, A copy of the marriage Certificate and a copy of the Ghana Gazette in which the church is listed as duly registered to perform ordinance marriages.

The letter from the Minister must state the names of all the witnesses who signed as recorded on the counter-foil in the marriage certificate book.

USCIS accepted the Letter of confirmation from the Registrar General's Dept. Hope this helps
