The US does not require it but some countries would require the affidavit that you are single and free to get married signed by the US consulate at least this was required in Lebanon before I was allow to marry a Lebanese citizen. I had to go into the embassy and paid $50 for a co to sign my affidavit.

I think people don't read through the posts in a thread, so this will probably fall on deaf ears(eyes), BUT...

The OP is applying for a K-1 visa. They are getting married in the US. They do not need to get a certificate from anywhere stating that they are single for their K-1 visa interview in Brazil. They do not need to get a certificate from anywhere stating that they are single in order to then get married in the US after entering with the K-1 visa. Not needed. Not necessary. Not required.

Getting married in another country that is not the US before applying for a spousal visa does not pertain to this situation. They are not the same. Not equal. The requirements to marry in a country other than the US have nothing to do with the OP applying for a K-1 visa.

Thanks. I realize that all of the replies regarding marriage outside the US might mean I would need proof but glad to be confident now that I don't need to include this in my initial petition and it shouldn't be requested before the interview at the consulate.

Nope. You are good. It is not required for the I-129F petition or your K-1 visa interview.
