Just sent N-400 but foreign passport expires May '16

Hello!

I just sent my N-400, I was wondering if I needed a non-expired Guatemalan (I'm Guatemalan) passport for the interview.

Taking notice on the timeline I might be cutting it pretty close, so for the interview my current passport might be expired, as it expires May 2016. I think I read somewhere that I need to show all passports at the interview.

05/20/2011-> Case sent to the Consulate.
05/25/2011-> Consulate Received Package.

The IO officer may ask to show you your passports, to see about the travels, but that again depends on the IO. And you dont need a valid passport for any other purpose than to travel, and definitely not for interview. u'd simply be wasting money if you renew your old passport. Also if you say it's valid till may 2016, you'll have your US passport way before that if you file properly.

I agree with the comments above. I assume you know this, but most countries (outside of the issuing nation) require there to be at least 6 months validity left on it. So in reality, a passport expiring in May of 2016 will actually become largely useless in December of 2015. Just something to think about...

It doesn't matter if the passport is expired. You will still need to bring it but they don care if it's expired.
