I'd love to try the Brazillian, its just, even after having a kid (where most of your inhibitions about your body tend to disapear pretty fast) Im still not comfortable with flashing my bits to some stranger in a salon!

But I dont like when you shave, and it grows back, it itches like a mare! All the hairs being blunt-ended (cos they've been shaved) isn't fun either - I know waxing makes them grow back finer so less itch factor would be a bonus but still...

I've had a brazilian before and loved it until it started to grow out. I did not get around to waxing last night so I've caved and am calling the salon today to go and have it done.....sigh. I'm such a chicken.

After 14 years of wax I have the best tip for the growing hair: after 1 week - 10 days you had wax, start to brush the skin with that sponge below everyday for 3-5 days, when you get in the shower. After the shower, apply lots of lotion. You wont feel at ALL the itch and wont have ingrowing hair too!!!

Another thing: just after waxing, NEVER apply any powder or oily product. The best is to wait 24 hours (when the pores closes back) to apply any lotion.

My mom was an easthetician and they do not recommend the wax for eyebrows. They say it makes the very thin skin to fall after some years doing it. Sometimes I do it anyway.

Good luck girls!!!

Thanks for the tips ;) as for eyebrows, I get a rash whenever I get them waxed, not sure why but I do. I tried it again a week ago and again-I got the stupid rash. No more eyebrow waxing for me

has anybody heard of eyebrow threading?? they take this thread and kind of twist it up and then they kind of catch you eyebrow hair inbetween the string and kind of twist the string and it burns the hair off... it is less painful then it sounds...

back in Canada, there was this lady I went to a few times who did an awesome job at eyebrows.... first she numbed the eyebrows a bit with this lotion stuff and then she combination of threading and waxing and plucking.... I found it so relaxing :) and it didn't really hurt

I went to this other lady one time because she was a bit cheaper and closer but she only did the plucking and waxing and she didn't numb the brow first... she didn't do a great job and it hurt :P

I really am in desperate need of getting my brows done... I am horrible at up-keep... whenever I try and pluck my brows it hurts too much and I always sneeze

Hmm, I've been thinking about waxing lately. This has convinced me to go out and try it. I have an extremely high tollerance for pain.

However, I will add that one time I tried NADS and it made my pores bleed. Like, little dots of blood everyplace. Eep!

Well, the ones I go to here in Brazil never numb the place.

And yeah I've heard of threading and everyone says it's great and it doesn't hurt. My mom's friend has a salon and she does that. It lasts about 3 weeks and everyone seem to enjoy the result.

I never thought that plucking or waxing my eyebrows hurt.... I even do it myself when I don't have time to go get it done and it's never a problem....but I like the result a lot better when I have a profesional taking care of it.

I don't think getting my legs waxed hurt either. I almost don't feel a thing.

The only place that is uncomfortable is down there  I'm getting used to it but it's still a little painful..... specially plucking the hair that can't seem to go away with wax! :dead::crying:

marilyn - the trick is to hold the skin taut (with the non tweezer-holding hand) and then pluck. If you're a bit of a wimp rub an ice-cube over the skin first as well, it helpd numb it.

Ive always plucked mine and have no problems with it - dont even need to hold the skin tight now just pluck away lol

I've never been to have anything waxed - my hubby tried it once and I screamed the house down so I figured shaving was the way for me!

I used to have an epilator, and I actually wrote a piece about it once; cunningly entitled "There was pain! There was screaming! There was blood!"

Oh yes there was. And there is still twitching, even now. I'm not sure my body will ever be the same, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Being female, I discovered some time ago that for some strange reason it's not considered either attractive or particularly feminine to have legs hairier than the man you're dating. I subscribe to the school of thought that says whilst you're not having sex and it's winter, there is absolutely no need to worry about the werewolf-like qualities of your legs, armpits or bikini line.

I find this principal works extremely well; in fact, it has not yet failed me. However, when there is the slightest possibility of either of these things changing, even I feel the need to hack through the veritable jungle of hair, cleanse, tone and moisturise. I am, after all, still female.

One reason that I enjoy this laxadasical approach to hair-related person hygiene is my almost pathological loathing of razors. I can guarantee that in the course of shaving my legs just once, I will gouge at least three chunks of skin out of myself, and slice at least one finger open. I have, over the years, come to accept this, and hence try to mutilate my legs as infrequently as possible. Knowing about my dread of Bic disposables, my mother very kindly bought me an epilator for Christmas.

Now in case you don't know, an epilator is an instrument of torture. Instead of lopping the hairs off at skin level, it pulls them out at the root. Who would have thought a simple little electrical device could be the cause of so much anguish?

I opened the box for the first time tonight. This small pink device looks reasonably harmless, certainly not like a modern-day equivalent to being strung up and tickled with a feather duster. Although I'd much rather be tied up and tickled with a feather duster.... But I digress.

I plugged in the epilator and switched it on. The speed at which the blades were going round quite frankly terrified me, but I thought Hell, let's give it a go. It's either that or shave, woman.

Ankles are not a good place to start. You can feel every single hair being pulled out, and it's absolutely excruciating. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise. I have a pretty high pain threshold, having had my belly button pierced with no form of anaesthetic whatsoever, had a tattoo and having been a self-harmer. Pain is not something which bothers me in moderate doses. But god, did this hurt.

The screaming occured once I reached my knees. For some reason, the hairs on either side of your knees really, REALLY hurt when you try and pull them out. It's like having someone jab you with red-hot needles, only in reverse. I actually yelped loudly enough for my mother to bother coming upstairs to check I was ok. I was able to assure her that other than feeling like I had been subjected to an alien sampling of the surface of my skin (and yes I have undergone this, so I do know what it feels like), I was fine.

It wasn't until I started on my armpits that I drew red fluids and cried like a baby. I also screeched like a banshee in training. The blood flowed from my wounded pores as if I'd been savaged by a very nasty person with a machete. I'm going to be cleaning it off my carpet for months. However I wouldn't let it beat me. In the battle of Christina vs. Philips HP6443, Christina won this time. Next time, I may not be so lucky. Despite the hell, I carried on plucking hairs from my body until there was not a single superfluous hair remaining on leg or under arm.

If you have never waxed or epilated your armpits, I would like to offer this piece of advice:

DON'T.

Save yourself the agony and the spillage of your vital claret.

I drew the line at attempting my bikini line. Even I'm not a glutton for punishment. You could say that in the war, the epilator beat me. #######.
