Hi,

I just recently received a case number in the mail last week. However, the case status says:

"Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment."

Does this means Lagos, U.S. Consulate General has received our case?

Do we even have to wait for the embassy to contact us before my fiancee goes for her medical examination, and schedule an appointment for an interview?

If no, what documents will be needed for medical examination at Q-Life and what's the current fee?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Was the letter from the NVC or from your Consulate?

If it was from NVC, you have to wait for the consulate to receive your case first. If it was from the Consulate then you only have to wait for them to contact you and send you your Packet 3 with instructions. From there you will receive your Packet 4, and then and only then will you be allowed to schedule your interview. Any interview scheduled before then could be cancelled without prior notice. You can technically have your medical before your interview but it is advised not to schedule it until you know when your interview date will be, as you will want to keep the dates close together. Furthermore some medical offices won't let you schedule unless you have the letter with your interview date on it, so best to be patient and wait.

The letter was sent by the NVC

I read somewhere that the U.S. Embassy in Lagos doesn't send out Packet 3. So, it's up to the principal applicant to schedule both medical examination and interview appointment.

I'm not sure if Packet 4 applies to K1 visa.

Lagos does not send packet 3 or 4 for K1 visa. If you have your case #, you can fill out the DS 160, go to GTB and pay the visa fee, schedule ur interview and then do ur medicals. You will need the interview letter u print out when u schedulw your interview for the medicals. I used QLife last week and was charged 30k.

Also u need passport photos too for the medicals at Q life.

Hi there, my fiance and I just had our interview at the Lagos consulate on Friday and so just recently went through this process. You're right, it is up to the applicant to schedule everything. If NVC sent you that then it means that Lagos should have your packet. The Lagos embassy will be emailing you soon (might take a few weeks) with further instructions however everything they will send to you/tell you in the email you already have access to through their website (http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/visas.html). The forms for both the medical exam and police report/certificate are accessible online. Once you pay the fee to the embassy through Guaranty Trust Bank and complete the DS-160 form you will be able to schedule your interview. Below I copy and pasted from one of the forms that was sent to me from the embassy. Best of luck!

INSTRUCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR FIANCÉ(E) VISA APPLICANTS

Fee: $265, to be paid at any branch of Guaranty Trust Bank PLC in Nigeria. Be

sure to keep the payment receipt number.

Please read and carefully follow the instructions below:

FIRST: Fill out the online DS-160 visa application by following the instructions at

https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/. Print and keep the DS-160 confirmation barcode

page. (You do not need to print the full application.)

SECOND: Schedule a visa interview appointment by following the instructions at

http://www.ustraveldocs.com. You will need your payment receipt number.

THIRD: You must bring the following documents to your interview:

• Passport: Obtain a valid passport, or if you already have a passport, make sure it

is still valid.

• Photograph: Obtain four passport photographs of yourself, size 50mm X 50mm,

showing full face view, with no head covering and on a white background.

• Medical Examination: Arrange for a medical examination by one of the panel

physicians listed in the separately enclosed leaflet. Please note that there is a charge for

the examination. A medical exam is also required for each unmarried minor child who

will accompany you to the United States.

• Birth Certificate: Obtain one certified copy of your birth certificate or age declaration

from the National Population Commission.

• Divorce or Death Certificates: If you have been married before, obtain one certified

copy of the divorce or death certificate to prove dissolution of the prior marriage(s).

Rev. 10/2013

• Police Certificate: Each visa applicant aged 16 or over is required to submit a

police certificate. These certificates must be obtained from the police authorities

of each locality (with the exception of places in the United States), where the

applicant resided for six months or more since attaining the age of 16.

• Court Records: If you have been convicted of a crime or other offense, obtain a

certified court record covering each offense.

• Evidence of Support: Obtain evidence to show that you (and your children, if

any, who will accompany you) are not likely to become a public charge while in

the United States. The enclosed information sheet (Form OF-167) lists evidence

which may be presented to meet this requirement.

Note: If you have any children, you must obtain one certified copy of each child’s

birth certificate. You must also obtain a police certificate for each child over the

age of 16 who plans to accompany you.
