We just got a text message update. We were so excited, we logged into USCIS to check our case.....it was an RFE. I'm so frustrated right now. Knowing we have to wait about a week to find out what is wrong. And I feel like its my fault because I filled everything out for my husband.

Don't beat yourself up too soon. We got an RFE as well. It was for an expired Affidavit of Support. We completed another one and sent it in, but when I checked the copies we made of the original ones we submitted, we had sent in the correct one to begin with. Sometimes the RFE is just a screw up on the part of USCIS and the easiest thing to do is to let them believe you were wrong and they are right (government agencies prefer this approach) and send them what they want.

What I'm saying is that it may not even be something you did wrong. Sometimes they lose things you sent in as well and they ask for them as though you never submitted them. And if it is an oversight or error on your part, it's probably easy to fix. I used to think an RFE was a disaster. But when we did get one last year it was just another piece of paper we had to pay $20 to send them again in the mail.

Try not to let it get to you too much.

I see you are in Tampa. We are at the Orlando office. Looks like the florida local offices are way behind. Keep the faith. Hopefully it will all be approved soon :)

PS. Love your profile photo! (L)

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and assurance! And for your kind words!

How long did it take you to get the letter asking for what they needed? I am hoping we get it today or tomorrow so I can get whatever it is sent it.

I went though all of our packet last night to check everything and I don't see anything wrong. But who am I? lol

I think what happened was panic immediately shot through me like "omg what if my husband doesn't get his green card now?"

Yeah we sat and waited a long time. Hopefully this means they are working on our case and once we get whatever it is sent in, that we will get an approval soon!

Hey guys,

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. Both in same sex marriages, and both under the Tampa, FL office. We're still waiting for an update on the I-485, the last was November 27th! Wbeem is also in Florida, though at the Orlando office and also still waiting. Having see a February AOS filer (from K1 visa) get their green card already, it's beginning to look like Florida is being very slow at dealing with AOS's. Frustrating as it's hard to plan anything long term until we know if/ when the AOS interview will/ won't happen.

Like you we also got an RFE for initial evidence (submitted an out of date form). That was done, but still no update/ acknowledgement from USCIS. This is despite numerous phone calls and a USCIS Case Inquiry (Service Request). The latter just came back as "case within normal processing times". According to USCIS Tampa processing times, the last I-485 they processed was filed on August 26th!

The waiting game is bad enough, it's the not knowing what, if anything, is actually happening that is the worst part. I wish the USCIS would better keep us informed with regards to our case progress/ tracking. Fingers crossed we and other November/ Florida filers will get an update soon.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and assurance! And for your kind words!

Well, calling USCIS was useless (I'm not surprised). My husband's status was updated 03/16/2016 to "Name was Updated". I finally got through TODAY and she said it was because we must have submitted a name change. We didn't. I told her we didn't and she said she couldn't go any further with me because the applicant has to be on the line to give out any more information about the I-485.

So frustrating. I guess we'll try to call together again tonight and maybe have to wait another 22 days to get through to USCIS. *sigh*

Coincidental that we also have had no status change since 11/27/2015.

Hoping that we will at least hear something this month. The waiting and not knowing what's happening is frustrating.

My husband was off today, so he had the chance to call USCIS about the "Name was Updated" status we got on March 16. (I tried to call and they wouldn't tell me anything without my husband on the phone)

He just got this email regarding his call to USCIS today:

"On March 16, 2016 your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence was approved.

We have reviewed our electronic records and found that your Permanent Resident Card (PRC) is already in production. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop the card production, at this point in time. You will receive your PRC within the next few weeks. If you receive your Permanent Resident Card (PRC) with an error then read below as to what you may do. "

So the Name was Updated status was a mistake and an approval? It's been a month and no GC yet? Does it usually take that long? Or maybe they found the error today and pushed it through to production?

Either way, I'm glad we don't have to do the interview. With his new job, it's hard for him to get time off right now. WOO HOO!

Hey guys! My i-485 status says approved as of yesterday! Does this mean I don't have to do an interview, or do I still have to do one? It didn't say anything about the green card, just to expect an approval notice in the mail with instructions. I am a bit shocked!

4/21/2016 - Got green card! :) No immigration worries til 2018!
