Be careful about your husband going back to his home country to work during the 2 year green card period. The whole point of the Green card is to allow permanent residency to live, and if applicable, work in the USA. If it is found during the 2 year conditional period that he spent large amounts of time working away from the USA (and possibly away from you?) that could potentially cause many problems, and possible denial, when you come to the 2 year Removal of Conditions stage. The USCIS could question why your husband has any need for a green card if he ended up working away from the USA.

Thanks Chasuno!

He's a sailor (navigator)and can't work in the usa as an officer because he isn't a us citizen and it would be awful for him to go back to a deck hand. But thank you again for the heads up. I think it's a max of six months away per year with a green card, right?

That I don't know, but likely. They want to see that he spends the majority of his time in the USA to be able to call it his home. I guess six months and 1 day would count, whereas 5 months and 30 days means he DIDN'T spend the majority of his time in the US. All depends how picky the interviewing officer is. But make sure you find out for sure if/ when he goes to work overseas as you don't want to get to the ROC stage and face problems if they question why he has a green card and then spends much time out of the country/ away from you.

Maybe it would be a good idea just to have him temporarily work as a deck hand until he gets his 10 year green card?

FINALLY, I got a text this morning to give me my interview date: it's going to be May 3rd. So if all goes well, I should get my GC by the end of May which is great news.

As a reminder, I saw that many of you didn't have to do their interview, but I applied through a change of status from a working visa (E2) and not through a fiance visa, so I never had to do an interview before.

I'm really relieved, my case status for my I485 had not been updated since I sent the package back in November.

Same here, and our local office was still at August applications for most recent processing dates. ANY news on my case would be nice! 4 months without a case update, and counting :clock:

Thanks Yuna, that's what I thought regarding the medical.

My local office would be Tampa, though I've no idea if my case has even made it there yet (it was filed at Chicago). USCIS processing times website states that Tampa are currently up to August 26th applications, and mine was November 5th. No idea if the RFE for initial evidence delays the date even further.

I don't think it will hurt putting in a service request, as sometimes that gives the office a nudge and can kick start the processing. Many people who submit a Case Inquiry get a response/ result soon after.

I'm feeling a little frustrated seeing some December filers now getting their green cards. It feels as if my case (and others from November) have been forgotten, hence submitting a service request. The information after I submitted it said that I should get a response by March 31st, though my USCIS case account states that it is not yet currently assigned for processing. I will wait until the 31st, and if no change it will be back on the 'phone to USCIS...

I think it really depends on the pile where your case ended. In our case, we received the RFE on Dec, 22 and sent it back on Feb, 22 because we wanted to file 2015 taxes to avoid another sponsor. I got my EAD/AP yesterday and a couple of minutes ago a text message woke me up (I'm in Seattle) to inform my interview was scheduled. May 2nd is the big day for us!

Hold in there, soon you'll hear from them!
