Question about arriving at the airport

My husband came here on a K1 visa a couple years ago and we'll be removing his conditions soon but my question is his sister is having a wedding in Oxford so we'll be flying into Heathrow in March next year, how do we go through customs? He's still considered a UK citizen but I didn't know if we could stand in line together or we had to separate.

https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control/at-border-control indicates that families must go through passport control together, likely through the EU/British citizens line.

Always made mine go through the Non EU line whilst I waited.

Queue was longer.

I went through separate visitors, non-EU, line first time back through Heathrow.

"Purpose of trip?" I'm visiting my husband's family.

"Is he British?" Yes

"Where is he?" Standing right behind you. He went through the short line.

"Next time go through the UK/EU line with him."

We always go through the non EU line together because I previously asked and they said my American wife couldn't go through the EU line. The last time we went through Heathrow they said we should have went to the EU line. I said we were told we couldn't do that and they said of course you can. The next time we entered the UK at Edinburgh airport and I asked if we could use the EU line and they said no that I would have to go through the non EU line with her if we wanted to stay together. So it seems like nobody knows the rules and they all just make it up as they go along!

I was told while sat waiting for my American husband after passing through the EU citizen line that I should have brought him through with me rather than waiting for him to go through the long separate non-EU line (this was at LHR) by an agent there.

As demonstrated here, often-times it's total pot luck and depends on who you ask and when, and if they're grumpy SOBs or gentle as lambs. We usually go through the non-EU line by default; it's longer (sometimes), but my American wife gets far less of a grilling because I'm there (not that she ever really did when she visited the UK on her own) and we're through within a minute or so.

It is totally random luck. my wife (USC) and I have gone to the EU line together and been turned away, or got through

We've gone through the non EU line and told we can go through the EU line!

My wife has the right to remain in the UK, yet each trip is a lottery at the passport control

We just go through the non EU as we can't be bothered with the clueless UK passport control

On the other hand we always go through the USC contol in the US and never have an issue
