I am not a supporter of illegal aliens no matter what their circumstances...we either have visa rules and border controls or we don't....rewarding border jumpers or visa cheats who marry some Walmart cashier should not be given green cards period....otherwise, guess what? People will jump our borders or violate the terms of their visas and know that their salvation and protection against deportation is as simple as marrying some dodo.....which then makes a mockery of our visa laws and border controls.

Responsible adults adhere to and obey the laws of sovereign nations/countries and expect a penalty for doing otherwise....

I doubt there are significant numbers of illegals who are just 'here' sitting around watching telenovelas all day long....most will be or are working, often with a fake SSN, taking away jobs from American citizens and depressing wages in several areas....the US of A is not the world's keeper, we do not owe anyone from outside this country a happy life....(we cannot even provide this for many of our own citizens, let alone people from other countries)...if country X or Y is a first class cesspool, run by some looney tunes dictator or just plain corrupt clown, that is not my responsibility to fix by allowing that country's citizens to just show up here with their hands out, working without permission, often getting free medical benefits, causing numerous car wrecks (who pays for that? yep...the American taxpayers)..put their kids into public schools (who pays for that?...yep...the American taxpayers)...the list goes on and on...and yet, their supporters (mostly immigration attorneys who hope to profit in the future by charging obscene sums of money to later fill out some basic forms to get their clients some form of status) try to convince us that if we were to toss out the 11M + illegals, our economy would grind to a halt...really? Why? Because I will cut my own grass or clean my own house?

Will a head of lettuce suddenly cost $39? No. (Rush Limbaugh thinks so...but then.....)in reality, some industries (parts of agriculture, hotels) might end up having to pay some decent wages to people, but since their profit margins are enormous, the cost of produce or a room at Motel 6 will not quadruple over night after all of the illegals are gone...

But can the usa afford to suddenly take on the costs of deporting every single solitary illegal? I really have no horse in this race. I just enjoy playing devils advocate sometimes.

I believe that there are steps to be taken to prevent things like making everify mandatory. Canada doesn't really have an illegal immigration problem, it's virtually nearly impossible to work there without proper ID (social insurance number) and its not even illegal not to file taxes there! I just wonder how their system works in comparison.

Their political system is not warped due to $$$$ influencing just about everything...our politicians pander to big business, who wants cheap labor, so while Congress makes some rules that supposedly prevent illegal immigration, they instantly create loopholes that neutralize those laws....

As for the cost of tossing illegals, it would be a pittance compared to what we have spent on those futile wars in Iraq and Afghanistan...

we put men on the moon and have sent satellites to Pluto....deporting a bunch of people cannot be any more difficult nor expensive.

But it is, because our legal system and the laws the govern immigration resemble a giant rubber band ball. One can't simply triage immigrants into X/M/L. Each case must be assessed on its own merits, with all the compounding/mitigating evidence/circumstance around it. It's beyond frustrating, but that's reality.

Agreed. Unless being able to adjust through an immediate family member changes this is something that immigration courts look at before tossing out an illegal. The common American has absolutely zero idea how much it'd cost to throw out said illegal. I think that's why people will be quick to comment on bidding them good riddance. Not saying you don't know HFM as you're one of the more knowledgable people here. However, I do believe that most people don't understand the due process that is given before deporting.

Strangely this approach hasn't completely worked even in Saudi. There are always people desperate enough to take the risk. The approach Portugal took on drugs is a much better solution. http://m.mic.com/articles/110344/14-years-after-portugal-decriminalized-all-drugs-here-s-what-s-happening#.x49643x64

I live in Saudi

Though it hasn't completely worked the average person here has no idea what drugs are or how to get them, so that's working well enough for me.

The odd trafficker who gets caught (3-4 a year) gets served up as example. Nasty punishment, but it keeps the streets clean. It isn't like they aren't warned. Change "desperate" to "greedy" by the way.

Capital idea, can we rape and murder the servants and dump their bodies in the desert like the Saudi's as well?

Would it surprise any of you to learn that an illegal who is about to get the boot, and who dashes off to marry somebody (often for money rather than love) has a better chance of having the process of cancelling removal and being handed a green card faster than those who are pursuing their eventual reunification with their spouse or fiancé? Do all of you currently enduring the waiting believe that this is fair? Do you really believe that the majority of these spurious marriages are for love instead of a way to avoid deportation?

Take those who arrive here and apply for asylum....a process that is truly laughable....when their cases start to founder, what's the first thing they after leaving the immigration courtroom? Yep...their attorneys are likely to have a Rolodex, filled with names and phone numbers of idiots who will marry for money....the 'asylee' is quickly linked up with a suitable candidate, they marry and suddenly their asylum claims don't seem so important....the current asylum adjudication methods are a joke...it really boils down to 'the best liar wins.' Some of the stories and claims I have read over the years would make the Brothers Grimm fairy tales read like the Bible....

As for rounding up and shipping out millions of people who don't belong here in the first place, I would propose a way that could well save a lot of money and drive home the importance of obeying our laws:

Pass a law or whatever, that gives illegals one calendar year from the date the law is passed to 'self deport'...they turn themselves in to a local ICE office, register, so to speak, and are given a ticket home...with the following incentives.....if they do this, then they are barred from re-admission for a period of two years....after their 2 years are up, they can then apply for and qualify for any type of visa they wish, including an immigrant visa if married to a USC spouse...

Exceptions: all criminal aliens, including thieves, drug dealers or worse....you are just gone the moment you cross paths with authorities...and I mean gone....never to return, because quite frankly, we do not need people like this in our country...we have enough wackos and bad guys, we certainly don't need to import them.

Now, for those who do not take this one time offer, well....on day 366, when your year is up, you now become instantly deportable the moment you are caught or intercepted by any legal authority, whether for a parking ticket, over due library book or whatever....you are G O N E and will never be allowed back into the US of A legally...so think about your decision to thumb your nose at this law....

There would be zero exceptions....don't care how many kids you have produced, how many character reference letters your neighbors write, won't matter....just drop on by the nearest ICE office, register, then say good bye for a while...because these people need to pay the price of their total disregard for our nation's laws and borders....without any meaningful penalty, people will just keep on sneaking in, or abuse visas...we need to stop this nonsense in its tracks.

Look at the upside....sales of Kleenex will go through the roof!

Please remind me and all of our listeners of something.....what 'race' are illegal aliens? Answer: none that I am aware of....illegal aliens are parasites, stealing jobs, medical care and other benefits that they have NOT earned, while often American citizens wind up paying for these services....

Odd...many on this site are probably "out of status" and looking to adjust status. 40% of undocumented immigrants are out of status. Yet you post your vitriol on this site and expect to get sympathy.
