  1. 1. How do you feel about talking about your money in public?

    • Money is something one never talks about except with family and close friends--it's a taboo subject
      30
    • money is best described euphemistically (i.e. "I am comfortable") but no shame in talking about it politely
      36
    • On a special occasion ("I just got a raise of $x")
      7
    • I'm proud of how much money I've earned over my lifetime and not ashamed to talk about it
      3
    • I'm so broke that I don't care how many people know anymore

The ones screaming are the ones who need to validate themselves. The ones claiming it's a source of envy ar those who feel the need to feel a false sense of superiority towards others, which imo indicates a low self-esteem issue. :)

That is very silly. ;)

so you say. how's the job search going for you?

Even in jest, that's completely uncalled for, and a perfect example of what I was just talking about. You have absolutely no idea what Alex may or may not have. Youdon't know what her finances are like...and being jobless does not mean she's poor. Yet there you go, making your assumptions and attempting to feel superior to someone you don't even know.

Which is not only ignorant, it's socially retarded.

any more retarded than her comment about my post? i think not.

To Charles: Really, you have no idea what my finances are like. And thank you, I have a job. :) And a husband who has a much better job. :) Too many smileys? :) :) :)

how exactly is rey working? his ead expired when you two got married, as i understand it.

eta: and your ead filed less than a month ago. you two know something i don't?

No, Rey's EAD did not expire when we got married. It's valid for 3 months after he got it at JFK. He actually started work today, so that leaves 2 months left on his EAD. He is consulting at a Fortune 500 company who is well aware that there may be a period when he can't work before his other EAD gets here. The consulting company is familiar with this situation, and his contract reflects that. He filed for his EAD exactly two weeks after he got here, so the gap should be either non-existent or small if the statistics are right, but if it's bigger, the company is aware of that possibility. Thanks for your concern, but it's not really any of your business.

Alex, please tell me you and Rey know way more about your own situation than anyone else!

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Seriously, how old are you? That's your justification? 'her comment was just as socially retarded?' How does the way she handle herself justify your actions? Aren't we all responsible for our own?

btw, what comment was that anyways?

I'd imagine they would. Go figure what with it being their lives and whatnot

no need to be so snippy about it. it was an honest question.

i'd forgotten that he just got here recently. in mine and nessa's case she was here almost 2 months and it was not worth her gettting a job for that short a period of time. and employers around here are not so understanding.

I've worked in banking, real estate and the legal field all my life. IMHO people who have REAL money never talk about it.

I agree completely with Lisa about being unable to discern if someone has money by the way they dress and what they drive. I once worked in a bank on the 'poor' side of town. Many of the customers tracked up our lobby from the horse manure and mud on their workboots. They had just driven into town in their 20 year-old red Ford F-Series farm beater pickup trucks. Most were humble as could be. Most had bank balances many here would die for.

When I was previously married, my ex-husband and I had a wonderful house, a 36 foot fifth wheel camper, a custom Ford F350 dual wheel pickup truck, a sport utility and a third 'work' vehicle. But I didn't have 20 dollars in my wallet most of the time for trying to pay the bills.

I went to school with a true 'trust fund baby'. Her mother always looked like an unmade bed and her father looked like the mad hatter. The girl herself was unconcerned with style and fashion. They were all nice, unpretentious people. They were worth millions.

My boss is third generation old money. He drives nice vehicles but dresses like any other guy in town. In other words - no Rolex, No Hickey-Freemans - you get the picture. And everybody in town loves him because he's just a down to earth person.

To GEG: I find that you talking about your money...which let's face it, the 'trust fund baby' comment is probably the motivation behind this thread....anyways, I think you whipped that out as another qualifier of 'how you're so different' on here. It's very similar to the countless times you bring up your PhD, your 'social scientist' thing, how your traits are viewed as more masculine, etc...I personally find it kinda sad that you seem so insecure that you need to qualify yourself to the world constantly....cos after all, on the internet, why must there be an economic and social class heirarchy? Futhermore, you have no clue if that even makes you different at all...there could be countless trust fund babies on here

It's not always wise to judge a book by the cover...for instance, in my job, I'm meeting people all the time. I can't tell you how many cash buyers I've met that other people would judge as poor cos they dress like #######, drive ###### beat up cars, etc. It's called 'flying under the radar'. And many people do it.

I notice that you comment a lot about me.

On the thread where I made that comment, and it is the ONLY time I've mentioned my finances here at all, lots of other people were doing the same. You seem to make a habit of pointing me out even when I'm doing nothing different from anyone else to point out how "different" I am than anyone else. This is YOU doing this TO me, not me doing it to myself.

my thoughts to you is to chill and stop singling me out. No one else does this but you and Alex, so it's something in your heads that's going on that you're trying to impose on me because of your own insecurities. I'm telling you now, I am not insecure here or IRL, and I haev nothing to prove to you. So you choose to can stop being different yourself by paying an inordinate attention to what I say, or you can keep on with this and continue to look like shrill nags who need to elevate yourselves by constantly harping on someone else. And I don't need any lectures on "flying under the radar" either. If you can't handle me, then ignore me, but you should know you're not going to change me. Change yourself and pay less attention to me, coz I'm not all that interested in you.

Starting this poll because of me? What foolish ####### that is!

To tag on to Rebecca's sentiment....My friend is an apartment complex manager. One of the guys working in mainenance, about 50 years old, just quit because he "bought a house and now wants to spend full time remodeling it." Well, of course everyone is shocked because his job pays about $12/hr, so how can he buy a house around here? It turns out, he'd saved every penny he ever earned, retired early, took this job for something to do for a while, paid cash for the house, and has plenty left over to remodel it, and continue his early retirement.

You just never know, which is why it's retarded to assume.

DING DING DING! This wins for the daily Biggest Load of Hypocrisy Award, also known as the daily Biggest Load of Hyperbolic Woe-Is-Me I Don't Do Anything But Everyone Picks on Me Award.

p.s. If it's only Alex & LisaD now, is the clique off the hook?

I responded to a bully post, peezy. I'm sure you would love for me to back down and not stand up for myself, but, unfortunately, even with your insignificant taunts, I do. Whenever you see smoke, you come to fan the flames, but that is what you enjoy doing most.

The bottom line is, this thread was started so that the insecurities of a few whiners could be allayed with some put downs. That was admitted to, so that is clear.

Actually I did not start this poll because of you. I can list as many as 5 incidences in the last 24 hrs where people have boasted of their own financial standing. Not everything is about you!

My dad always told me NOT to tell anyone else how much money I am making...

Not even Alex knows...

hahaha yeah right. Get back to work ;)

What on earth was admitted to? I didn't start this thread because of anything but the fact that I've noticed an increased amount of talking about money. Jeez!

Read what your friend Lisa said. She seems to think everything is about me.

BTW, Lisa, I'm straight and married. Stop stalking me.
