How long do we have to wait!

Hello everyone,

My husband and I got married in Aug 2014 in Dominican Republic. I started the process with USCIS Sept 2014. On May we finally got approval that it would be sent to the NVC, now they approved the case and we are waiting for an interview date. How long does this usually take? It feels like we have been waiting forever, I am a U.S. citizen I thought the process would be faster. We also have a child who is now 6months. Does anyone have an idea how long we have to keep waiting? :clock::cry:

Maybe you just forgot to mention it or you never did it, but once the packet gets to the NVC you have lots of documentation to send them and fees to pay.

Did you send them any documentation or pay any fees to the NVC?

I take it since you said you are married you are actually a CR1 visa but your timeline states a K3.

I did state that in the documents. Paid the fees and also sent everything I was asked to send.

Make sure to send the Extensa (long) form of your marriage and birth certificates. Have them legalized at the Civil Registry Office in Santo Domingo. If you follow the instructions carefully, you will be fine. You now need to have patience, which is probably the most difficult and important parts of the process. I made a mistake by not sending the Extensa forms of my wife's birth certificate and our marriage certificate, and this mistake set us back about two months. We had our interview on November 3, we were approved, and my wife's visa was issued very, very quickly--just two days later. She picked it up at a local Mail Boxes Etc. and had it in hand on November 6. I am impressed with the efficiency of the US Embassy in Santo Domingo. I am grateful and applaud their efforts. Very happy with how we were treated. Four-hour interview process, but all was worth the wait.

I'm guessing that you should anticipate a CC anywhere from now until the January or February. It seems to me that it will happen soon for you. It usually takes close to a year from the initial submission to USCIS, but it could be shorter depending on the NVC case load and the particular nature of your case. Call the NVC if you gave questions. Don't get frustrated. Good things will happen soon. Visa Journey is a tremendous resource for information and emotional support. Everything was sent how you said marriage certificate birth certificates etc... We got the email Octover 13 that all the paperwork was approved and that there is a visa available just to wait for an interview now. I hope it doesn't take as long as you said. That would make it almost 2 years of a process.

I am glad that everything went well with you and your wife. A 4 hour interview ? Or a 4 hour time frame from the time of arrival to the point you left??
