Please remember that you are not simply proving that you got married. You are giving evidence of a bona fide relationship. So the proof of time spent together (boarding passes, hotel receipts, photos, etc.) along with correspondence, chat logs, and the like from the beginning of your relationship to present are important.

The wedding ceremony is a single event. It proves very little about the legitimacy of your relationship. It's better than the affidavits because no one ever submits a bad affidavit.

Every embassy/consulate is different in what they expect. Do some reading in the regional forums to learn what you ought to prepare for the interview. Submitting evidence with the initial filing means that the CO doing the interview can review it all before you sit down in front of them.

If you are more comfortable with using an attorney than doing it on your own then that is the right choice for you. There is nothing magical about having an attorney prepare the documents. It is still reliant on imformation and evidence that you supply.
