Interview scheduled; leaving US 4 days later

Hi all,

I just received a notification this morning that my green card interview has been scheduled (yay!) for December 9. I'm a little concerned because my husband and I are traveling to England very soon after the interview to spend the run-up to Christmas with my family (my flight is December 12; his is December 16 -- we're meeting there and traveling back to the US together on Dec 26). I have Advance Parole (was on H1B visa but no H1B visa stamp because adjusted status from F1 while in the US -- though I'm guessing none of that matters any more now that I have Advance Parole).

My concerns are:

1. If the green card is approved, can they give me something on the spot to confirm that so that when I leave the country four days later I will be able to get back in the US? I won't have time to get the green card in the mail...!

2. If the green card is not approved during the interview because they require further information, can I still use the Advance Parole to reenter the US after my trip to England? We certainly have a bone fide marriage and we have lots of documentation of that, but because of work I live in Pittsburgh and my husband lives in North Carolina; I spend about 1/3 of the year in NC with him, but I officially don't live there. I imagine that because this is a fairly unusual living arrangement we might be subject to additional questions/documentation. I've tried to anticipate this, but you never know...

Thank you for any insight you can give me on this.

1. You would get an approval letter stating your green card is in processing. I do not know if they can give you this letter on the spot after the interview.

2. With your EAD/AP combo card you can safely leave the country while your green card is processing, that is what it's for. But in any case, to be safe, take along with you your original marriage certificate when traveling abroad. My wife and I, do that as a backup to prove we are married. :)

If approved on the spot you can ask them to put a temporary I-551 LPR stamp in your passport and use that to get back into the country thats what I did.
