Hi everyone,

I received I-20 form from a university and I am a bit confused about what information to put in DS-160 form.

1. Arrival time / location

I have not bought my flight tickets yet, and I am kind of stuck in "Travel" Section, answering "Have you made specific travel plans?" question. Is it Okey to answer NO? Because I am not really sure when exactly I can purchase my flight, or which city in US I will be landing (depends on the flight route of course) first.

There are "Program Start and End" dates on I-20 form, should I be using them instead? But my university is asking me to be there before the program starts so I can attend the university orientation event. Also, I am not sure when exactly my convocation will be, it some times is not right at the end of a Semester (Depending on when I finish my study).

2. Address Where You Will Stay in the U.S.

Can I just put in: University of XXX, and then the address of the university? Because I have not yet found a place to stay.

Cheers

You don't have to give them specific dates, you can give them an estimate when you think you'll arrive.

I do not know how picky they are about the address but I guess you can put that down now and then at the interview you can let them know you only put that down because you had not yet found a place to stay yet. But if the time between the interview and your start date is close you probably want to have an address for them.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your replies. I had my interview today, but it was kinda strange:

1. I was never asked for my DS-160 form

2. I did not receive any form or paper, indicating that Administrative Processing is needed, but when I check my visa status online, it says: Administrative Processing.

3. The office still held my passport

Does this mean I might go under the long background check? Because I am not sure how long this might take, and I need to prepare for my departure in advance.

Everything is like it should be. They kept the passport because they're putting your visa in it, that's also why it says you're under Administrative Processing because them putting the visa in is Administrative work. The DS-160 for is electronic and they've already seen it.

You were right :). There was nothing to worry about. It seems that on the first day, the status will be "Administrative Processing".
