Buying a roundway ticket and then flying back later, is this smart?

It is not future intentions that matter, it is non immigrant for that entry.

I have only been asked basic questions.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thanks for the replies. What will happen if I buy a roundway ticket and also have a ticket for a flight back from a different state? Because a roundway ticket is way cheaper than a one way ticket I wont use it. Will they sue me? Ive read about people getting a huge fine for throwing away a ticket and just buy a roundway because it's cheaper.

Why would you throw away a part of the ticket?

What's wrong with buying a return ticket, arriving in one state and flying out from another, as close to the date you think you will fly back as possible? If you need to change the return date then do that, will surely be cheaper than buying another one way ticket.

You are making a very simple and easy thing way more complicated than it needs to be.

How do I do that? On the websites where I can buy my tickets I can only select to fly back from the same airport as I entered.

Don't know what website you're using but most have 3 options: one-way, roundtrip and multi-city. Try to find multi-city. Some also just have a thing where it says "choose to fly from another airport".

Cool :) I see now that other sites have that option. The site where I buy didnt have that option. This solves all my problems.

Ive gotten a 90days approval stamp in my passport. Even if I didnt stay for 90 days.

You can stay legally for 90 days. Whether you stay for 2 days, 45 days or 89 days is irrelevant as long as you're just visitng and leave the US before midnight on the date stamped in your passport.

Thanks I'll definitely be bringing the K1 papers to prove we are doing it the legal way.

I did this twice in 2012. Entered at YVR while waiting for NOA2, and at LAX while case was at NVC. No problems what so ever. Both CBP officers asked me a "trick question" however - "Are you going to adjust status or go home for the interview?"

Thats the problem, we arent sure yet when we will be flying back. Also I will be flying back from the other side of the states since we will be doing a roadtrip.

You can't enter on the VWP without a return ticket. You can however change your mind, as long as you leave before your 90 days are up. People change their return flight all the time.

Get a return flight for a likely return date, and if for any reason you change your mind, that is not a problem at all. I extended my stay back in 2012 by a month after learning my interview was a bit later than expected.
