There are sects within all three of the major monotheistic faiths which fit the bill. These are the extremists and they oughta be kept out. Religious tolerance can only go so far; there has to be a point where we say, ok that we will not tolerate.

Theoretically speaking, I agree with you. But how many would-be immigrant extremists would admit to being extremists, forcing this oath upon themselves?

It's a lot like the requirement that potential immigrants disavow any involvement with the Nazi party of Germany. It's not like the DoS actually expects Nazis to say yeah I'm a Nazi. But if they say they're not and once they're in the US it turns out that they were, or they hold those beliefs.. that's one more charge you can slap against them to get them back to where they came from.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I'm surprised they even let people immigrate there anymore.. They barely have room for the Dutch, why would they want to let more people in their country? the country is too small with too many people.. Its their country, they can do what they want with immigration...

i agree with what most have written.and if not wanted don't go there..i think, the dutch have allowed immigration in the past for cheap labor,.,,and now, after some past historical problems are curbing it...

They already do suffer harsher penalties, but that is not what I am saying.

I am saying if a belief system exists that advocates that US law is null and void due to the fact that the Founding Fathers were not of that belief system, then any individual who claims to belong to that belief system needs to disavow it before they are allowed into the US.

Do you have an example belief system in mind?

It's the ........ system, of course. Religion of peace.

Don't know if that DVD would do any good.

Most of the violence against gays, women and jews comes from 2nd and 3rd generation muslims (mainly morrocans, sorry if I offend anyone but it's true) who were born in the Netherlands and have the dutch nationality. They are caught between a rock and a hard place, for they are brought up with (sometimes very) traditional muslim values, but experience the liberal dutch society whenever they step out the door.

Of course it would. If they had this law 30 or 40 years ago, there wouldn't be any 2nd or 3rd generation

of Muslims in Holland to begin with. The buck has to stop somewhere.

The United States should think about having similar tests. For example, if you follow a religion that advocates disobeying laws made by people of other (or no) religions, then you oughta be disqualified from immigrating unless you take an oath disavowing those beliefs.

So then what you're saying is that any immigrant who breaks the law should suffer a more harsh penalty because they took said oath?

I don't think he said they should get a more harsh penalty. In some countries, if a man's daughter should lose her virginity before marriage, she has disgraced the family and is to be murdered by her father. In the US that is not acceptable and he would be punished here the same as any US citizen regardless of the fact that in his country it is expected.

I also know someone who immigrated there. His reasoning is that he is gay and that in Amsterdam he is accepted as he is.

The parade in Amsterdam was a lot better (can't remember which month). They cruised on Amsterdam canals with boats full of decoration & some attraction/live performance. Was fun !

Been to Holland and seen all sorts - but that was Amsterdam and I'm sure such things don't occur too often in public in the more rural areas.

Also Sydney has a huge gay population and they have a great parade every year - which is always such fun!

As for the Middle east - I have 2 pals who are nurses who went out there to work - they were told by the hospital personnle dept that when they went out into the city they should cover up as best they could as that is the local way and to go out dressed like they might in London in the evening might cause terrible offence and could lead to 'problems'; they had to sign some paper saying they'd been advised of all the local rules (like no drinking, no PDA, and that women must not go in certain areas and other behaviour rules etc) before they were taken on.

So if its ok to do this going to a muslim country then surely the Dutch idea is really no different.

You live in another country then you abide by its rules and practices.
