Hi, here is the website about ITIN. https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/General-ITIN-Information

This is the application form https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf.

You mentioned getting ITIN in the Philippines, are you still in the PH? Are you flying anytime soon to the US?

Others might be able to tell if you need an ITIN if you aren't yet here.

When my husband filed taxes while I was still the PH, he had to file it manually (mailed) to put NRA (Non-resident alien) in place of the ITIN/SSN box since it didn't let him key it in online through Turbo-tax. Not sure why or if there is a way to do that.

Hi Jazel,

First off you cannot get an ITIN there in the Philippines, actually you can't even get an ITIN here in the U.S. from any office either. The process to obtain an ITIN involves submitting an application. The application is submitted to the IRS ITIN Operation unit along with a U.S. Tax Return and documentation to prove identity and foreign status of the ITIN applicant.

Note: It takes approximately seven weeks to process an ITIN application.

Actually, it is possible to submit it in person through certain IRS offices in the US, where they review and return the passport back to you.

When you submit the request for ITIN there is list of acceptable documents to submit. I found it easiest to submit her original drivers license and nso birth certificate. (they will be returned). Took about 6 weeks to get the documents back and then the ITIN. The tax refund for the ammended tax return we submitted took almost 3 months.

Yes, correct, but that is only an option to "submit" the application without having to also send in your original identity proof. The OP was asking about how to "get" an ITIN, which you can't obtain the actual ITIN number from any office at all, even in person.

Its a process, that should be a given just like getting a visa.
