SSN coming back as "invalid"

Hi all

I have been a PR for just under 2 years now and have just applied to remove conditions. Strangely, my social security number has started coming back as "invalid" when attempting to put internet or utility bills in my name.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue? I have held my SSN since I first arrived in the States over 2 years ago, and have used it regularly. I never bothered to get the "only valid with DHS authorization" blurb removed but this shouldn't make any difference I assume....

Would appreciate anyone's comment......could it be the lack of credit history?

Go to the social security office and talk to a live person.

Go to your SSA office and tell them about your problem. Hopefully they can easily sort it out for you. Go ahead and take IDs and green card with you. They can update your status to LPR in their system.

It's likely related to your short credit history. I've run into similar issues in the past. It usually ended up with me having to fax a copy of my social security card and ID card to whoever I was having the issue with.

I actually had the same exact problem yesterday when trying to open a Capital One 360 savings account. My SSN did not "verify" in their system, so I had to call in and answer some of their questions. They couldn't generate any of those automated questions for me, so I was pulling up my .pdf of my social security card and ID card that I keep on hand for exactly this purpose, but she was able to ask me some other stuff which apparently validated it. Just call me pinnochio because I guess now I'm a real boy.

I too have recently had this problem, specifically related to my divorce and getting set up on my own account with AT&T. I'm a June 1 filer for lifting conditions. It's really strange how we've all had this issue at the ROC stage

Good to know, because I need to call Capital One myself, for the same reason. We tried to open a joint account with Capital One, but at the point in the application where my USC wife had been asked identity-verification questions, I got a message saying that they couldn't verify my SSN and needed to call in. Haven't gotten around to it yet (why does an online bank only have phone support during regular business hours?) but glad to hear it should be straightforward.

It took probably ten minutes, tops. I did have to wait on hold for a bit though.
