Will my wife's SSN change?

My wife was in the US on a J-1 visa in August 2012 and got a social security card, saying something like "for work authorization only". She just arrived in the US a week ago on a IR-1 visa. On the DS-260 we typed the social security number she got with the J-1 and indicated that we needed a new card. Do you know if she gets a new card, it will have the original social security number, or will it generate a new number for her?

I need to know if we can use the one from 2012 to add her to my health insurance, apply for jobs, etc. or if we need to wait for the new one to come. Thanks.

Once you obtain social number it is yours. you can change last name but number will remain same.

Just go to social office, bring paper work showing status was adjusted and they will mail new card to you guys.
